I tried to go through the proper channels and attempted to get the answer from my own surgeon with no luck. I just hit 6 months post op from 360 lipo/inner thigh lipo/and bbl. Should I be ok to donate plasma? Is there a general rule of how long post op someone is before they’re allowed to donate blood or plasma?

Answer: Post op timing for plasma donation Generally speaking, you may donate plasma as soon as your blood levels return to normal post surgery. At 6 months, you should be fine. Best wishes. Dr. Taranow

Answer: Getting answers from your doctor I applaud you for first checking with your plastic surgeon and I’m sorry to hear that your provider did not respond to your question. That is unfortunate. At six months you can consider I love your results final and all healing including internal scar tissue to be mature. six months is generally a conservative time. Surgeons often use for when would be a good time to re-operate or do a revision. it’s usually slightly conservative so you should be totally back to normal from a physiological perspective. The only thing that can take longer after liposuction is how the skin incisions look. Skin scars continue to improve for 12 months and sometimes longer. The body generates blood products very rapidly and red blood cells for example only last 120 days in the body. After significant blood loss most people will regenerate blood cells and blood products starting immediately and be back to baseline within A few days to maybe a week. Plasma is regenerated within one day. Thank you for donating blood products. Be well, Mats Hagstrom MD
