Can anyone tell my why Botox couldn’t cause anxiety?

Question

I’d like a shot of Botox but there are several accounts online which claim that Botox has caused anxiety. I could really do without that (already experience mild anxiety)....but would like to get rid of the number 11s! Be nice to hear the facts as to why this would be impossible....!

Botox injections typically do not cause anxiety.  The treatment does not take long, causes minimal discomfort, and patients traditionally tolerate it very well. Some patients may experience anxiety in anticipation of the treatment.  Distraction and cool compresses as well as breathing exercises may help.

In the thousands of patients who I have injected with Botox over my many years in practice, I don't know of anyone, in particular, who developed anxiety attributed to the Botox injection.

I am not aware of any studies that show that Botox causes anxiety, but it is possible that the process of the injection could cause anxiety.  I would think that if this occurred, it would be a relatively short term issue though.

Hello and thank you for your question, To my knowledge Botox does not cause anxiety. Perhaps the procedure itself caused anxiety for some. Best wishes.

Botox has now been used in millions of people worldwide with no credible reports of it causing anxiety. That said, there is some reasonable evidence suggesting it improves depression and mood. Botox is still the preferred treatment for the 11s/frown lines, and has been extensively studied for over 20 years.
