Will this go away or will I need a revision? (photo)

It is too soon to tell what your final results will be. You likely have swelling, which can last 3 to 6 months after your procedure. It will take 6 to 12 months to see the final outcome.I recommend following up with your physician about their suggested after care protocol. I have my patients wear compression for 3 to 6 weeks straight and then overnight for 3 to 6 months after their procedure. I suggest adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding Vanquish for further fat removal; truSculpt iD, Exilis, Forma, and Venus Legacy for additional skin tightening; and Cellutone / ZWave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Best, Dr. Emer.

This really takes about 4 months to heal not 4 weeks. So a degree of patience is warranted. Massage, and other physical measures are not needed. Give this time to heal.

Dear roofing1,Thank you for your question. Swelling is normal and can persist for quite some time after liposuction. The swelling accumulates under the chin because of gravity and recovering lymphatic drainage. If the area is firm, you could consider massage. I have also had success using transcutaneous radiofrequency devices (one example is ThermiSmooth) to reduce this swelling in the postoperative period.Hope this helps,Nirmal R. Nathan, M.D.

You are very early in your recovery, it may take several more weeks before you see your final result and all of the swelling goes away. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon and be sure to follow your post operative instructions, good luck.

While it appears that you may have a slight undercorrection of the neck I would recommend waiting 3-6 months before a revision. Continue with your lymphatic massage, avoiding high salt, sleep slighty elevated and nighttime garments in the meantime.

There are several techniques and devices used for liposuction or as an adjunct such as VASER or Thermi, which stimulates the skin to shrink over 3 months sometimes 6months, so we have to be patient for the final results as some of these techniques can results in a lot of swelling. Also, Skin tightening needs time for collagen formation.

Good job on the compression garments.  It is too early to judge results.  Please wait for 4-6 months for all healing to occur prior to judging results.

You are less than a month away and your swelling has not gone down yet. It is still very early to tell. Sleeping elevated will help with swelling and then garment will help. Please follow up with your plastic surgeon if this continues to be a concern for you. 

Surgery in the neck area can create swelling that can take several months to totally resolve. Gravity tends to make swelling settle in this area, therefore, it can be one of the last areas for swelling to go away.  In some patients, the "final result" will not be apparent for 4-6 months.  Patience and your compression garment are your best keys to getting to your final result.   Best of luck!

Hello Roofing1,At 22 days there is still quite a bit of swelling present.  It will take time for that swelling to go away.  As you get closer to the 2 month mark you will start seeing closer to your final result. In the meantime follow up with your surgeon as scheduled.I hope this helps and good luck.
