Seeing very little results after 12 days post op Liposuction. Any suggestions?

I got lipo on my upper/lower abs plus flanks and bra roll area 6/24. He removed 4.6 liters. I weighed 177 in operation day and weigh 178 today. Is it possible I still have so much swelling? Seeing very little result so far 12 days post op.

With liposuction it can take several months to see the final result, however the majority of your swelling should go away after about six weeks or so. Try to be patient and best to discuss with your doctor directly if you have questions.

It is very possible that you are still retaining fluid and are swollen at 12 days.  I would recommend setting expectations for several more weeks for the majority of the swelling to subside and several months for you to see the final results.

Lipo takes many months to see the results.  Speak to your physician about how to speed up the healing process, which can be improved with velshape or venus legacy.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Most patients see improvement immediately after liposuction although swelling can obscure the long-term improvement. Occasionally more significant swelling can make it look as though very little happened which can persist for a number of weeks. Continue to be patient.

Hi, roccosmom2014.  Thanks for your question.  With any surgery, patients can retain fluid after surgery and will experience swelling, especially on the area of liposuction.  It takes at least couple weeks for the swelling to diminish; the final contour of liposuction may come about after 3 months.  Please follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative instruction; massage over the liposuctioned area and wear the compression garment.  Since your plastic surgeon removed 4.6 liters, I think you will eventually see decrease in your body weight and a better contour in couple months.  With best regards.  - Dr. Kim

You are still very early in the recovery process. Swelling is normal and can take months to resolve, but if you have any concerns, you should definitely talk to your plastic surgeon.

When liposuction is done correctly on someone who is a good candidate, immediate results, perhaps 50% of final results, should be seen.The following half will be seen over the next three months.With high-volume liposuction, there is often significant amounts of swelling that will camouflage final results.Generally, at this point, it is inappropriate to even begin addressing final outcomes.Follow up with your plastic surgeon and address your concerns with him or her.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
