Am I a good candidate for sliding genioplasty? (Photo)

Question

I am 20 y/o. 5ft 115 lbs. I had braces for almost 2 years and it pushed my lower jaw back a bit. I've always had lip incompetence but it's gotten worse after braces. Also in the past two months after braces I feel like my chin has gotten smaller. Could this be from weight gain or from the lip incompetence?

You are a candidate for a sliding genioplasty based on your profile but you may also be a candidate for a chin implant. Frontal facial photos would be helpful. In some cases, the implant can make your face appear wider so I would need to see a photo facing forward to give a better recommendation.

A sliding genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay. It is usually performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment. For purely cosmetic purposes, you can consider placement of a chin implant performed under local anesthesia, which is much less invasive and takes about 30 minutes performed in the office setting. Placement of a chin implant will have no effect on your teeth or lip incompetence

From your pictures, it looks like your chin has fairly good projection, and advancing your chin while it might help balance, your face will create a deep labio mental fold.I’m guessing the lack of mandibular projection is actually a little further back in the body of your mandible.
I suggest consulting with oral surgeons in your community to get a quality assessment.
Sling genioplasty can be performed by oral surgeons or plastic surgeons.
It seems to me that plastic surgeons seem to lean more towards implant augmentation.
 to get a formal cranial facial assessment I think oral surgeons may have a slight edge.
