Both of my cheeks need anterior augmentation, but my left is in pretty desperate need of lateral augmentation as well. What are my options?
Answer: Correction of hemifacial asymmetry Generally speaking for correction of hemifacial microsomia one should consider augmentation of both bone and soft tissue. A combination of cheek implant and soft tissue augmentation with local flap tissue or fat grafts would be my choice. We have used galeopericranial flap (tissue underneath the scalp) which is well vascularized, live tissue to cover implants and augment soft tissue deficiency for mild to moderate microsomia. You should seek a consultation with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon or craniofacial surgeon for clinical evaluation and discuss your options. Good luck.

Answer: Facial evaluation Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. Depending on your specific facial anatomy, fat grafting or facial implants can be helpful. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Hemifacial Microsomia As in all cases of hemifacial microsomia you have an underlying cheekbone deficiency. Given your asymmetry and the need for different shapes of augmentation between the two sides, you should have it treated by custom made cheek implants. These are made from a 3D CT scan and computer designed to achieve the optimal born symmetry between the two sides.

Answer: I have moderate case of hemifacial microsomia. How can I augment my left cheekbone as much as possible? A full set of facial photographs and and in-person examination required for a complicated case such as this. If both cheeks are hypoplastic, then a differential sized cheek implants can be performed to augment both of them, however one cheek implant will be larger than the other. Alternatively, only one side could be augmented if needed. For more information about cheek implants and many before and after results, please see the link and the video below
