Can you have a breast biopsy if you have saline breast implants under the muscle?

Yes, you can have the breast biopsy with implants under
the muscle, and you should if it is indicated.Most breast surgeons operate and do biopsies on patients with implants
and know how to take the proper precautions to preserve the implant.However, there is always the risk that the
implant can rupture which will require a revision surgery.

It should be fine to have a biopsy with saline implants in especially if they are under the muscle. There is always a chance of rupture and you would know especially with saline implants. The breast would deflate in size.

Biopsies usually done under imaging guidance can usually be done safely without injuring the implant. There's always a risk, however, of an injury to the implant. In the case of sailine, it'll be quite obvious, as the implant will deflate. 

Thank you for your excellent question.  It is possible to have a breast biopsy performed with saline, or silicone, implants, regardless of implant position.  Your breast surgeon confer with your plastic surgeon, but biopsies are routinely performed without incident.  Hope this helps. 

Hi, rn2013.  When performing biopsy, radiologists use ultra-sound to guide their biopsy needle.  They will see where the implant is in relation to the calcification.  Although there is a risk for implant puncture, the risk is very low.  Good luck.

You can definitely have a breast biopsy performed after a Breast Augmentation if it is necessary. A careful needle biopsy or an open biopsy are both possible, but preferably should be done by someone with experience performing these with an implant in place. I strongly urge all my patients to perform monthly self breast exams and follow established guidelines for obtaining mammograms.

Of course there is a risk of an implant puncture with both saline and silicone implants, however the biopsy is ultrasound guided and you should not be discouraged for a breast biopsy if you need one. It can be safely done.

Yes, it is very possible to safely do biopsies with implants, particularly under the muscle. Using Ultrasound or CT guidance would be a great way to proceed should the need arise. 

Yes, one can have a biopsy after saline implants.  I am sure your surgeon would know you have implants.  They will have to be careful and there is still a chance that the implant could be punctured or ruptured during the biopsy.  Good Luck!
