Is my incision/implant infected? Should I be concerned? (photo)

Question

I have a small sore that had pus in it on my incision. I have a slight burning on the same breast. The chest wall feels a little bruised as well. Should I be concerned? Can this be treated with just antibiotic ointment or will my implant have to be removed?

Good morning!You definitely need to contact your PS right away- this could be something as simple as a stitch abscess that will heal on its own or it could be signs of a more serious infection brewing that ultimately could result in the implant needing to be removed. Hopefully not, but better safe than sorry!

Thanks for your question and photos. Without question, you need to see your plastic surgeon to make a diagnosis. I would suggest that you see them sooner than later. The odds are that it is a stitch abscess which can be well treated conservatively. However, you need to get this evaluated and treated.

Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your augmentation!  This appears to be a localized area of irritation due to a suture.  I would contact your surgeon to discuss treatment options and local wound care but this should go on to heal without issue.  If the surrounding redness worsens and begins to speed I would contact your surgeon ASAP.  Hope this helps.

It's hard to know exactly by just looking at that incision if there is an active infection. Sometimes it can just be a superficial wound infection without affecting the implant pocket. This has to be confirmed by your surgeon in person. I would have this looked at as soon as possible to avoid more serious problems. I hope that helps and good luck

Your description and photo look like a suture abscess has formed. Your surgeon should remove the suture and you may need antibiotics. The infection isn't likely affecting the implant and should clear up if promptly treated.

if you have Pus can be a sign of alarming when it is coming out of an incision or other type of wound is a sign of infection, but the presence of pus is not always bad news, it means your body has started to combat the infection, you should visit your surgeon for a consultation and start a treatment with antibiotics. However is to soon to say that you need to replace your implant If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Thank you for the question and pictures.  Overall there is minimal redness and a very small wound - most likely this is from a stitch at the surface of the skin.  I would recommend you see your surgeon soon and have them take a look, but most likely this will be fine and not result in removal of the implant.
