Hair transplant surgery to lower the right side of your hairline requires achieving a certain amount of density and space to be covered. From my clinical experience, you’ll need about 2 sessions about a year apart in order to get the maximal density and volume that you desire. You’ll also get a few different opinions from other doctors about what is ideal for you. One thing that is overlooked during these consultations is that it is not about the number of grafts, but the number of grafts that will survive after the transplant. Some people measure results by the number of hairs doctors would place per square centimeter. In reality, it’s not about the doctor’s ability to do the surgery because any competent doctor can place as many hairs that he wants. The real measure of a successful hair transplant is the number of hairs that survive. With this understanding, patients are able to appreciate their game plan when it comes to hair transplantation surgeries. We have seen patients who have come to us from all over the world who had very large number of hairs transplanted that have had up to a 90% loss of hair grafts. So in my practice, we have been able to help a lot of our patients with something relatively new to the hair field called Hair Regeneration. This is a procedure using a material called extracellular matrix (ECM) made by ACell combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Platelet-rich plasma is derived from the patient’s own blood that is spun down to get the healing factors which are found from cells and plasma called platelets. These are the cells needed for wound healing, and both PRP and ECM are wound healing factors. We’re using this technology that we’ve developed for these past several years to enhance and maximize the survivability of the hairs that are transplanted. When we do our transplantation in cases like yours, we actually start from the back and feather forward. This way, as you heal and the hairs grow, it doesn’t look so sparse. It can look very close together during surgery, but not compared to what nature creates, so these transplants can look artificial until you get a second procedure. Your situation has a lot in your favor. Since you’re dealing with a limited area and you don’t have an issue with hair loss at this point of your life, you have more than enough donor area in order to transplant the hairs. But I would advise you to look very critically at the opportunities to maximize every procedure you have. Even if you have two procedures, it is best to maximize the survivability of the grafts. In addition, you also have to consider if you have a family history of hair loss. So learn about the options to maximize the results in terms of the survivability of the hair grafts. Also, learn a little bit about Hair Regeneration or the use of extracellular matrix to enhance the healing process. I hope that was helpful, I wish you the best of luck, and thank you for your question.
