Can I have a Mommy Makeover if I have Herpes?

Question

After having my 3 kids I want to have my body back. My ex husband gave me herpes after having our kids and now that we’re divorced I want to look and feel like my old self again. I do not get outbreaks often but at least twice a year. Without having an outbreak at the time of surgery can I have a Mommy Makeover?

Thank you for sharing your question and rest assured you can still have surgery despite an occasional herpetic outbreak.  It may be wise to take daily dosing of an antiviral like Valtrex or Acyclovir during recovery to avoid an outbreak.  Hope this helps.

Herpes is very common and it should not affect your candidacy for a mommy makeover. I would recommend you see some board certified plastic surgeons in your area for a consultation.

Your body should get it’s wish!  Sorry you have this issue, but it should not prevent you from having your Mommy Makeover surgery.  Your plastic surgeon should consult with your infectious disease doctor to implement coverage with antiviral medication to prevent an outbreak during your recovery. You will need to get blood work done before your surgery to make sure your're helathy and in shape for surgery. Combination procedures can give powerful results but safety is key.  You definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety.  Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

Yes!  As long as you do not have a current outbreak and you are cleared by your medical doctor you should be just fine getting a mommy makeover.  This procedure is great to:
1.  Lift the breasts
2.  Increase the volume of the breasts with implants or fat grafting
3.  Tighten the abdominal muscles for a flatter stomach
4.  Remove excess skin and stretch marks from the lower abdomen.
The recovery takes about 1-2 weeks depending upon which procedures you decide to have done.

Hi and thank you for your question.  So long as you do not have an active infection at the time of surgery a herpes diagnosis should not preclude you from having a Mommy Makeover surgery.  It is likely that your Plastic Surgeon will have you take an anti-viral medication prophylactically to prevent a herpetic outbreak during your recovery.
