Hi! I had a mommy makeover on 6/21/17. And today, 8/15/17, I am up 5 lbs from the date I had my surgery. I had a significant seroma, that needed to be drained 2x/wk for 1 month, but my PS says it has subsided. I was healthy before the surgery - I worked out 5-6 times per week, so I am wondering why the scale is up so much? Also, I thought by now, almost 2 months post op, I would have a look that is closer to the results I wanted - but not so much. I still have a fat roll when I sit down.
Answer: Swelling, swelling, swelling At this point, I believe swelling is likely the cause of both your weight gain and your results being less visible than you’d like. Depending on the extent of your surgery, swelling can take quite a bit of time to go away completely. Give yourself some more time, and I bet you’ll begin to see your results develop with each passing week.

Answer: Weight gain Recovery from the Mommy Makeover takes time. Swelling will still persist for 6-12 months after surgery. It often will fluctuate with your activity level. When cleared by your surgeon, you can slowly return to exercise to help enhance your surgical results.

Answer: Post Op Weight Gain Guaranteed,... and Temporary In general, tissue injury during surgery causes swelling after surgery and it frustrates everyone. Rule of thumb: Half of the post-op swelling goes away in the first month, and the other half takes a whole year. If you had a seroma, infection, constipation, or surgical ileus (slow bowels), then the swelling will persist even longer. The good news is that it always gets better. You must be active and maintain a good diet so you dont gain weight from inactivity and calorie excess, but that is always true.

Answer: Mommy Makeover Recovery Barbish82. I appreciate your concern, but it is still early in the postoperative course. Also, your recovery was slowed somewhat by the seroma. The concern about the weight gain is a common complaint right after surgery, however, it most certainly secondary to swelling and will resolve. As soon as you are cleared to resume working out, your body contour should also improve. Try to stay patient and stay in touch with your surgeon. Best of luck!

Answer: Weight Glad you are finally recovering. Well you may not know this but on any given day the scale can fluctuate as much as 5 pounds easily. Especially if you are not using the same scale every time and weighing at the same time of day every time. All of those things affect the scale. But, the scale is just a number so I would not focus on that. I often go by how I feel and look in the mirror myself. The scale for me is more for checking in now and again to make sure I am still on track with my goals. So I would not put too much stock into a 5 pound swing. Hope this helps.
