Is breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction contraindicated if I have psoriasis?

I have psoriasis that has previously affected my scalp, nipples, axillae, vaginal labia, and oral commissures. The psoriasis was late adult onset and has gone into remission with Humira (40mg every 2 weeks) and has been in remission for a year. I would like to have a breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction. Will the surgery cause the psoriasis to flair or will there be issues with healing?

Thank you for your question. It Seems like you're going to have a mommy makeover which can sometimes take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours depending on who's doing it. Any surgery puts stress on the body and since Psoriasis is as an autoimmune disease, Your body will be stressed even more than usual. It is good that your condition is currently controlled on your medications. Depending on whether your rheumatologist recommends this or not it might be a good idea to skip a doze or two After surgery To help with the wound healing aspect of your surgery. But that would be a decision between you and your rheumatologist and your plastic surgeon. Some studies in the plastic surgery literature have shown In hand surgery That staying on your medications might be beneficial. I hope this helps. Your psoriasis diagnosis will not preclude you from having surgery.  Surgery is considered a stress to the body, and with that you may have a flare up of your psoriasis.  I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.  Be sure to mention that you are currently taking Humira, along with any other medications and supplements you take.

Psoriasis is not a contraindication to plastic surgery neither is Humira. The treatments for Psoriasis may increase the chance of wound healing problems and infections to is important to discuss it with the physician treating you for the psoriasis. Due to the stress of surgery you may suffer from a flare up of the psoriasis but should be temporary.

Thank you for your question.  Psoriasis is not a contraindication for surgery.  The Humira however can delay healing and increases your risk for infection.  I feel that your surgery can be performed safely with this increased risk.  You should discuss with your PS and your psoriasis providerBest Wishes!

Thanks so much for your question.   Any type of elective surgery will put stress on your body and may cause a temporary flare of the psoriasis. I think this would be easily managed if you're having good response with your present medication. Although it may present a small temporary flyer I don't think it would do anything long-term. I think it's reasonable to think that you would have an excellent result with the surgeries you mentioned.   Good luck. I hope this helps.

There is no contraindication in having plastic surgery and having psoriasis or being on Humira.  The stress of surgery can cause the psoriasis to flare up, but usually this does not happen.  You do not need to stop the Humira to have plastic surgery.  You may have a greater chance of having a post-operative infection or delayed healing however, but this is not really common either.

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Noether psoraisis alone, nor the Humira are contraindications to surgery. As long as your psoriasis is not active, and the humira has been stopped for 2 weeks before and after surgery, you should be safe. Of course, you will need an in-person consultation to evaluate you for this procedure. Preoperative visualization and surgical simulation with the Crisalix system may help with your decision. I suggest that you find a board-certified plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of patients who have had similar procedures. Good luck!
