Thanks for your inquiry and an excellent question. Honestly, every surgeon has different office protocols. This includes the number of visits, the frequency of visits, and who you will even see at your post-op visits, like the surgeon or someone else on their staff. In my office a mommy makeover of a tummy tuck and breast procedure with some liposuction would probably stay overnight at the surgery center and be seen by me that night and the next morning. If you are having a routine post-operative recovery, most patients would be seen once more in the first week and then weekly for the first three weeks. If you are healing well, then you would be seen at the six week mark, 3 month mark, 6 month mark, and then finally at the one year mark. With each visit , there will be different assessment and treatment goals. Good Luck.
Dear chemmommy, every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol and follow-up schedule. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
Thanks for you question and congrats on your surgery. There is no consensus answer to your question. Most PS will follow patients until 1 year after surgery. I would expect additional appointments around 6 months and 1 year post-op.
The post-operative visit schedule for a mommy makeover can vary depending on the surgeon’s recommendations and the specific procedures involved. However, a typical schedule might look like this:1. Immediate Post-op Visit: Usually, the first visit occurs within a day or two after the surgery to check on your initial recovery, change dressings, and ensure there are no immediate complications.2. 1-2 Weeks Post-op: The second visit is typically scheduled about one to two weeks after the surgery. During this appointment, your surgeon will assess your healing progress, remove any non-dissolvable sutures, and provide instructions for care and activity limitations.3. 4-6 Weeks Post-op: Around the one-month mark, you’ll likely have another follow-up. Your surgeon will monitor your healing, discuss scar care, and may allow you to gradually return to some regular activities.4. 3-6 Months Post-op: A follow-up appointment at this stage is to evaluate the long-term healing and the progress of your results. Your surgeon will provide guidance on resuming more strenuous activities and may discuss any additional treatments, if necessary.5. 1 Year Post-op: Many surgeons schedule a one-year post-operative visit to assess the final results and address any concerns or questions you may have. It’s important to note that these are general guidelines, and the exact schedule may vary based on the procedures performed, your individual healing, and your surgeon’s preferences. Always follow your surgeon’s specific post-operative care instructions to ensure a safe and successful recovery.
Thisis a typical (but not rigid) timeline for recovery from Mommy Makeover, whichusually consists of 1) abdominoplasty 2) liposuction 3) Breast lift +/-implants 4) +/- BBL:1.First 24 hours: Overnight recovery in the facility where surgery was performed,at bed rest with hips and knees in flexed posture. First surgicaldressing and compression garments are placed at the end of the operation butbefore waking up from anesthesia. Fluid and pain management by IV andbladder catheter are used.2.Post-op day 1: Dressings and garments are changed and instructions aregiven on how to change them daily at home. IV and bladder catheterare removed before discharged to home or hotel. Begin walking withassistance in slight stooped posture. A walker may come in handy. OK to shower with assistance and sitting on shower bench. Early andcontinued mobility is very important! Stay well hydrated!3.Post-op day 2-3: First office follow-up. Dressing and garments arechanged. Instructions given on dressing changes and self breast massagesfor patients with implants. 4.Post-op day 7-10: Second office follow-up. Abdominoplasty drainsmay be removed. Start walking more upright. OK to sleep flat. Liposuctiondrainage slows down or stops.5.Post-op day 14-21: Third office follow-up. Looped sutures areremoved. Transition from opioid pain medications (Vicodin, Norco, etc) toTylenol or Advil. OK to start driving and return to "desk"work. OK to walk outside home. No lifting anything heavier than gallon ofmilk. Start using scar products like silicone or vitamin E (for 3-6months)6.Post-op day 42 (6 weeks): Fourth office follow-up. Compression garmentsno longer used. Slow down or stop self breast massages. Lightweight and cardio workouts OK but NO chest or abdomen weight training.7.3-6 months: Near total recovery. Ad lib exercises. Recovery of normal sensation in all areas of liposuction. Smaller areaof persistent/permanent numbness above the central abdominoplasty scar. I don't recommend ANY chest exercised with breast implants...EVER!
Thank you for your question.Every surgeon is different, but this schedule is very similar to the post-op course that I use. I typically see patients back at one week, two weeks for tummy tuck, six weeks, six months, and 1 year. Obviously, if any issues arise between these visits, patients are encouraged to follow up sooner.Congratulations on your mommy makeover!Best wishes,Dr. Kavali
The answer to this question varies by surgeon as each has their own protocol. The most important facet is that you are able to see your surgeon on a regular basis and that he/she is available should you have questions or concerns in between visits. Generally speaking, the appointments get further apart as your healing progresses.
Every surgeon as their own protocol. Discuss the follow up schedule with your surgeon. Also, as questions come up you may be seeing your surgeon in between appointments.

Scar recovery is a process. It can take 12-18 months for scars to settle and "mature" (the term used by plastic surgeons). During this time it is important to follow the instruction of your plastic surgeon with respect to scar therapies (taping, massages, scar products) to insure that the s...
Thanks for the question. It takes 3-4 weeks for your body to recover and return to daily life without any problems. I wish you all the best.
