Breast Implant changes - is this normal or do they need to be corrected? (photos)

Hi. With time tissues stretch over the implants and give the breast a droopy appearance (waterfall deformity). In such cases you often need to have revision surgery with a lift to tighten the skin. This would give the breasts a more perky shape again and position them back on top of the implants.

Thanks for your inquiry and pictures. Breast changes do occur with time and affect the aesthetic results of a breast augmentation. Without measurements and an exam it is hard to advise about options. A lift may be part of the plan.

Thanks for your question! 8 years and roughly 13 lbs of weight gain could have a great impact on your breasts. As we age and our bodies change, it's not surprising that your breasts have changed also. If the location of your nipples is bothering you, a breast lift might be a good option! Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. It appears that your natural breast tissue and skin has sagged and stretched and you will need a formal breast lift +/- an implant exchange to approach your initial augmentation appearance.

In the years following breast augmentation, women may experience changes in implant position, breast skin dimensions, breast tissue volume, implant capsule characteristics or some combination thereof. One of the most common changes is to experience stretching of the inferior breast skin resulting in a longer distance between the nipple and the breast. This is caused by the weight of the implant on the lower breast skin. The photos provided appear consistent with lower breast skin stretching and possible descent of the implants. A lateral photo would help assess this more accurately.

Your skin has lost some elasticity and sagged, and consequently your areolas have enlarged- the correct solution is a donut mastopexy to reduce your areolas, tighten your skin and lift your nipple position. Although not required, this would also be a perfect time to replace your implants.

You are a very good candidate for either a periareolar (donut) mastopexy (breast lift) or possibly a lollipop mastopexy. These procedures will tighten your breasts, round them out and elevate the height of your nipples. As your implants are almost 8 years old, consider replacing them at the same procedure.

You are experiencing normal changes with time and age. The tightness and swelling from surgery does go away and tissues do stretch. You have nothing wrong.
