Can Juvederm filler cause muscle augmentation around mouth corners?

HI, thank you for your question.  It is difficult to assess without a picture, however, has your treating provider considered the possibility of a foreign body granuloma? It seems as if the newer vycross fillers (Juvederm volbella, vollure, voluma) have a higher risk of this phenomenon, but it can happen with any dermal filler. Since Hyaluronidase has failed, there is a chance a steroid injection (Kenalog perhaps) into this area may improve the contour if it is indeed scar formation.

I have never heard of "muscle augmentation" after filler. It is impossible to comment on your case without seeing a photo or evaluating you in person. 

Can you share pictures? I’ve never hear hyaluronic acid (Juvéderm) causing “muscle augmentation” as hyaluronic acid is usually absorbed “melts away” if you would by our body 6-12 months. It’s not a permanent materials. With that said, I have seen scaring of the skin and tissue by the injection sites after the fillers are placed. If you’ve already tried hyaluronidase in the past then we know for fact is not hyaluronic acid in your muscle fibers. One suggestion, maybe trying Botox in the nodule in the corner of your mouth since botulinum toxin can cause muscle to shrink (atrophy). If that doesn’t work then we know it’s not muscle related. I have a hunch that knot maybe scaring.
