A week and a half ago, I had Juvederm injected into my cheek and Restylane in the tear trough. Can filler affect the sinuses?

A week and a half ago, I had Juvederm injected into my cheek (near my nose) and Restylane in the tear trough. Two days later, I developed serious sinus congestion and clogged ears. The filled areas look healthy but my sinuses are completely clogged and congested. I can feel fluid sitting around my nose and lots of pressure on my nose and forehead. Could the filler be clogging my sinuses or putting to much pressure on them?

This isn't typical and is probably not a result of your filler treatment. If you continue have symptoms, I would follow-up with your Doctor. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Hello, the filler may not have anything to do with your sinus issues. Your sinuses are quite deep to the location in which filler is injected. Please follow up with your injector and also perhaps with your PCP to investigate any underlying allergies or sinus congestion.

Hi, thank you for your question. It is very unlikely for any filler to cause sinus issues such as the one you are describing. At times, the filler can create a little bit of pressure which may resemble sinus pressure. However, it cannot clog the sinuses. I recommend seeing your primary care provider for further evaluation and treatment.

Hello Kaylee Sherman,Fillers would not affect the sinuses.  Depending on how much was injected and where it can create a more full feeling over the cheeks or nose which may be confused as sinus pressure.  This would be a rare scenario and would require quite a lot of filler to create that sensation.  Since the sinuses drain through the nose and fillers aren't injected inside the nose, they cannot cause sinus issues.  I'd recommend you follow up with your primary care doctor to assess  your sinuses and need for treatment. I hope this helps and good luck.
