I haven’t found my surgeon yet. I’m just wondering in general what the BMI would be to yield the best results without having to lose a ton of weight after the surgery for best results
Answer: What is generally the best BMI for a BBL? No best BMI exists, but PSs look for one close to 30 to decrease the risks of complications during and after surgery and to enhance results. BMI is just one measure of your fitness for surgery. General rule of thumb is to be within 10 pounds of your weight goal and maintain a stable weight prior to surgery. If you stay within 10 or 20 lbs of your operative weight after surgery, you are likely to maintain the results. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: What is generally the best BMI for a BBL? Thanks for your question. There is not really an ideal BMI for the BBL. Patients considering cosmetic surgery such as a brazilian butt lift should have a BMI of 30 or less. The closer you are to your ideal weight the better your results will be. When planning a Brazilian butt lift, patients can look forward to a double benefit: reducing areas of unwanted fat while gaining a perkier, rounded posterior. Each procedure must be planned according to the individual needs of patients, harvesting fat from target areas of the torso, thighs or knees and transferring it to create smooth, attractive contours optimized for each person. The amount of fat transferred depends on the quantity available and the extent of buttock augmentation each patient desires. Sufficient body fat for a buttock augmentation is very patient-specific, depending on an individual’s body shape and proportions as well as their expectations. That said, you definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety. Best is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

Answer: Optimal BMI for surgery The optimal candidate for surgery has reached a healthy stable weight (preferably with a BMI < 30). This will lower the overall surgical risk profile. While there is no absolute ideal weight, studies have shown that patients with a BMI of 30 or less do better. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Answer: THERE'S NO AN IDEAL WEIGHT FOR A SUCCESSFUL BBL PROCEDURE. Hello Brazilian7, It’s a pleasure to answer your questions! Every patient is unique, and there’s no an ideal weight or BMI for a successful BBL surgery. BMI over 30 is associated with higher risk of complications such as infection and wound dehiscence. This applies specifically to patients who are undergoing procedures that include large incisions such as an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and breast reduction. I would recommend asking your plastic surgeon if he/she requires you to lose weight or not depending on whether he/she is planning to do a full body Liposuction or just a limited Liposuction to harvest the fat. Have in mind that there are limits to the amount of fat that can be safely removed. Similarly, the volume of fat that can be safely injected into the buttock varies from patient to patient, and it will depend on the patient's anatomy and cosmetic goals. Request an in-person or virtual consultation with a board-certified and experienced plastic surgeon to assess your candidacy for BBL based on your age, skin laxity, body shape, and health status, among other factors. Best wishes! Dr. De La Cruz.
