I haven’t found my surgeon yet. I’m just wondering in general what the BMI would be to yield the best results without having to lose a ton of weight after the surgery for best results

Answer: Optimal BMI for surgery The optimal candidate for surgery has reached a healthy stable weight (preferably with a BMI < 30). This will lower the overall surgical risk profile. While there is no absolute ideal weight, studies have shown that patients with a BMI of 30 or less do better. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Answer: THERE'S NO AN IDEAL WEIGHT FOR A SUCCESSFUL BBL PROCEDURE. Hello Brazilian7, It’s a pleasure to answer your questions! Every patient is unique, and there’s no an ideal weight or BMI for a successful BBL surgery. BMI over 30 is associated with higher risk of complications such as infection and wound dehiscence. This applies specifically to patients who are undergoing procedures that include large incisions such as an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and breast reduction. I would recommend asking your plastic surgeon if he/she requires you to lose weight or not depending on whether he/she is planning to do a full body Liposuction or just a limited Liposuction to harvest the fat. Have in mind that there are limits to the amount of fat that can be safely removed. Similarly, the volume of fat that can be safely injected into the buttock varies from patient to patient, and it will depend on the patient's anatomy and cosmetic goals. Request an in-person or virtual consultation with a board-certified and experienced plastic surgeon to assess your candidacy for BBL based on your age, skin laxity, body shape, and health status, among other factors. Best wishes! Dr. De La Cruz.
