Is my nose disproportionate to my face? (photo)

Question

I have always disliked my nose because it looks too big for my face...I think it's too long, has too much height, my nostrils are big, my tip seems too large. should I get a nose job to help enhance my facial features?

From your photos, you appear to be a good candidate for rhinoplasty to decrease the bump, bring the nose in a bit, and refine the tip. Then it should blend much nicer with your other good facial features. Be sure to see a rhinoplasty specialist for consultation, but a well performed surgery should give you a very natural result.

I made a couple of computer morphs of your nose, and animations of the morphs, to show the changes that are possible for your nose in truly expert hands.
Mostly, I brought the tip back closer to your face. I lowered and smoothed the little bumps on the bridge. You'll see that typically, when the tip comes back toward the face, the upper lip relaxes a bit, and the upper lip doesn't pull forward onto the nose any more. From the frontal view, I tried to narrow the tip and elevated where it seems to droop. The woman in the short video with this post had her nose brought back closer to her face.
You should understand that the changes I demonstrated in the morph require advanced techniques, techniques that most plastic surgeons cannot handle.  Be sure to read the section in the "Learn more" link on how to stay out of trouble while searching for a rhinoplasty surgeon. You should only have surgery if you are able to make yourself very confident in your surgeon's skills. Read that page very carefully. Most plastic surgeons are quite poor at this operation, and I believe my advice will go a long way toward keeping you safe.
I'd love to hear what you think of the morphs. Did they seem to address your main concerns?
Your nose is also a good example of why computer imaging is mandatory in rhinoplasty. You need to know exactly what the surgeon is planning to accomplish -- what features he thinks he can change, and by how much he thinks he can change them. When you see his goals, you'll know whether he has an eye for an attractive nose, and whether he shares your opinion of what constitutes an attractive nose. You'll also know whether the changes he proposes are enough to be meaningful to you, and whether he understands your wishes enough to address all of your priorities. But remember, you're not hiring him for his skills with the computer. The doctor must then show you his before and after photos to prove that he can actually accomplish what he draws on the computer.
In your case in particular, you need to find a surgeon who understands all of the issues I mentioned, and how they fit together, and who can actually accomplish them in surgery.

Hi and thanks for your question and photos.  Yes.  You would get a great benefit from a rhinoplasty.  Your nose is long with a dorsal hump (bump).  Your tip is bulbous and you have a small, tethered upper lip due to the fact that your nose is too long.  I would be happy to see you for a consultation to do computer imaging and show you what I would do.  My office is in the Philadelphia suburbs not too far from where you live.  Good luck

photograph, you may benefit from a rhinoplasty to help your nose fit in harmony with the rest of your face.  This could be accomplished with a tip refining rhinoplasty, dorsal hump reduction, nasal tip deprojection, and a cephalic rotation of your tip to turn
up your tip slightly.  Make sure you specifically look at before and after
pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon
and not just a computer animation system. The most important
aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek
consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate
you in person.

Only you- the patient- can decide if you should or not get Rhinoplasty .  Based on your photos - you appear to be a great candidate  for Reduction Rhinoplasty preferably through a closed technique ( without a scar on your columella) in order to achieve a more feminine, elegant nose to match the rest of your features. Thanks for the nice pics. They make your evaluation relatively easy to do here.  You have great facial features and bony structure and a reduction in the size of your nose would enhance your appearance even more. The nose is mildly overprotected, wide tip, with webbing underneath the nostrils . You also have a moderate size hump on top to reduce. All very straight forward to correct. But even the simplest of noses like yours if not done by an experienced surgeon who is meticulous can result in less than a perfect result. I always do just one major nasal operation a day so I am not rushed .  Below is an example of how I remove a hump.

The photographs presented demonstrate an overly projecting nose, and an under projecting chin.  Under projection of the chin makes the nose looked bigger than it really is.  Consider  placement of a small chin implant to augment the chin forward to help with the facial balance and proportions, especially from the side profile with respect to the overly projecting nose.  A closed rhinoplasty procedure can accomplish decreasing the overall projection of the nose, shaving down the dorsal hump, narrowing the bulbous tip with all of the incisions placed on the inside of the nose.  For many examples of this combination, please see the link and the video below

Hello and thank you for your question. You would be an excellent candidate for Rhinoplasty and the result would very much enhance your overall facial balance and appearance. You have a dorsal hump that could be reduced so hat your dorsum is made straight. It is also important to create a little supratip break (so that your tip projects around 2 mm further than the dorsum). This will give you a nice feminine nose. In addition, I would refine your tip and reduce the infratip lobular show that you have. And while your nose can be done through a closed approach (I prefer open) I would be sure that if you see someone who is not planning to open your nose, you at least make sure they are planning to deliver your tip during surgery and change it appropriately. Otherwise you will not have as good a result as possible.   I recommend that you see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in consultation for more specific answers to your questions. Hope this helps!
