Majora reduction - Does the place of the scar depends only the technique of the surgeon?

Your surgeon will decide the best place for the incision and how much tissue to remove. The goal is to not have too much tension on the incision because that will distort the nearby tissue. Make sure you see someone who has done the majora before.

Placement of the scar depends upon where the incision is made  and how the incision is shaped and how much skin is removed and the suture technique.  It can vary based upon surgeon.  If too much is removed there can be tension that can pull the scar so it is more visible.  Good luck.

Hello bicha,You are correct that the location of the scar will vary even with the same surgeon based on the patient's individual anatomy. The goal is to place the incision as medial (towards the minora) as possible without creating a gaping effect where the vaginal opening is more exposed.Based only on the photos you provided it appears that your labia minora are large and asymmetric so they would certainy protrude beyond your majora afterwards. I think you would benefit from a labia minora reduction at the time of your labia majora reduction to provide you with the most youthful and natural appearance. Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Scar placement varies on a number of factors that are both surgeon and patient dependent.  The former includes their surgical technique and preference, as well as the amount of tissue excised while the latter will affect scar quality and to some degree placement based on their starting anatomy.  Hope this helps.

Hello.  While the incision for the procedure should be in the interglacial fold, sometimes a surgeon who may lack experience could place it elsewhere.  The fold has a more moist type of skin that will typically leave very little to no scar.  Depending on how much tissue is removed, the scar may shift under tension.  The depth of that fold can be reduced.  An assessment of your labia minora should be made prior to your procedure and depending on how much of a reduction of the Majora you wish to have, decide whether a reduction in labia minora is also in order. Salut, Bicha, Yes, the location of the scar does depend on the technique of the surgeon and the amont of tissue to be removed. I usually try to place along the dividing line between the hair bearing area and the mucosal area of the LM. One can reduce the cleft between the LM an the lm, but I never want to do it if if it will make the lm protrude more. You might then need to do an operation that you did not want to do in the first place.I would suggest that ou visit with an experienced surgeon in your area who does many of these to determine exactly what you are looking for and one who will give you a good exam and discuss the operative choices.Bonne Chance!  Dr. Christine Rodgers

is usually done with removal of the hair bearing skin lateral to the cleft between the minora and majora.  Excising more of the hairless medial majora will make the cleft more shallow but could also lead to lateral pulling and a wide open vulva so care and judgement is really important here.  And if you reduce the majora too much, your somewhat prominent minora will protrude more.  So make sure you know what your surgeon will be doing for you before having any procedures so you will not be disappointed or left a vulvar cripple with hard to fix problems.

A fine, experienced female genital plastic/cosmetic surgeon, who is savvy about proper placement of incision lines, and savvy about how to manipulate his or her lines to eliminate the ptosis that frequently forms at the "bottom" of the L. majora, sometimes "buries" their incision lines in the inter-labial fold, and very often does not. Whether or not your incision line is visible after majoraplasty depends on the amount of labum removed and the "skin tension" of the skin remaining. The skin at the lateral portion of the incision line is thicker and "stretchier" than the skin immediately lateral to the interlabal fold to which it is attached, thus pulling the line laterally.

Obviously, an experienced labia majors surgeon stands a better chance of hiding the line, but in reality the incision line is usually visible when your legs are to some degree apart. That said, if incision closure is with non-inflammatory sutures like interrupted 5-0 dermalon nylon sutures removed after 7-10 days, or with sucuticular fine monofiliment suture like 5-0 Monocryl your incision line will be slender and barely visible. The depth of your interlabial fold may be softened by the lateral "pull" after your LP, but this is not every time. Additionally, after your majora have been removed, your minora may be more prominent. If you wish to both hide your majora scar, and make sure your minora don't appear more predominant, I suggest that your surgeon be conservative, not removing too much with your majoraplasty...
