So I had my surgery, got sent home and then about an hour later started having the most extreme pain ever followed by major bleeding. It kept happening every 30 seconds and ended up back at the hospital. Was told I had a hematoma and had to be put back under and she had to reopen my stitches, put medicine in to stop the bleeding and do 3 rows of stitches. I just want to know if this amount of bruising and swelling is normal and if its going to affect the overall outcome? This is 5 days postop.
Answer: There is nothing normal about your story Trapped blood will cause bruising, irritation and prolonged swelling even after the blood has been cleaned out. Whether this will impact your overall results cannot be predicted.

Answer: Major bruising after labiaplasty. Is this normal You underwent labiaplasty majora or minora surgery. And because of this pain, your surgery area is not visible. I did not understand what surgery was done to you. That's why I can't comment.

Answer: Major bruising after labiaplasty Have you ever seen a woman after a blephoroplasty (eyelift) or after a facelift? She looks like a black & blue chipmunk! Same after labiaplasty, because the tissue and "tissue planes" ( the areas under the skin) are similar-- lots of interconnected loose tissue spaces (ever stuffed a chicken under the skin..?!) Well... same for the vulva; all interconnected under the skin. So... when you bleed, whether it is a generalized ooze (common after labiaplasty) or the more-rare hematoma, the blood seems to spread to the outer labia (majora), inner thighs and, occasionally, even up to the mons pubis, like it has done in your case. You've been through a lot, and it seems like adding "...insult to injury" that you have to suffer the indignity of a purple mons pubis, but it is just leakage of blood under some pressure from that blood vessel that started leaking after surgery, producing your hematoma (now treated), and sending blood hither & yon. Like all things, "...this too will pass." After turning all colors of the rainbow for the next 1-2 weeks, the blood will be resorbed into your system, and the end products of the bleed (iron and blood proteins) will be well used by your bone marrow to form new red blood cells and, after a slightly longer recovery period than first anticipated you'll be, most likely, good as new! Answer: Bruising in your mons will not impact your labia healing. I'm sorry you had to experience this but glad its water under the bridge for you now. Warm compresses can help with resolution of your bruising. Follow your surgeon's instructions and be patient as the glimpse appreciated from your photo suggests you should have a good outcome.

Answer: Give it time before evaluating end result Unfortunately, on rare occasions, complications can occur after any surgery and the surgeon seems to have handled it properly with all that you describe. Bruising with all of this repair is not concerning judging from the photo and your description of the hematoma. With a hematoma, you can expected bruising, swelling and pain while it is resolved, but with proper care that will resolve nicely and heal beautifully. It looks like the hematoma is completely repaired and this bruising will resolve completely. Our aftercare protocol, when strictly followed, of 24 hours constant ice and bed rest, specific medications, and in surgery care to seal any potential vessels from causing bleeding/hematoma, makes post surgical pain and issues nearly non existent. Still, what you are describing and show does not seem to be an ongoing issue that will affect the results. Wait until fully healed to assess you results and if necessary, seek minor revision only after fully healed. You are doing good now.
