Is chin strap necessary for small removal of fat under chin?

Some surgeons may recommend a chin strap after fat removal (liposcution) under the chin, and some may not.  I do recommend that my patients use a chin strap for 1-2 weeks after the procedure and find that it does help with the healing process and to define the neck better.  If you are having some issues with wearing your chin strap, you should contact your surgeon to discuss the problem.  

The chin compression helps with the swelling after submental lioposction. It is difficult to give advice without looking at photos.  Pain should be subsiding after 3 days.  Please contact your Plastic surgeon with your concerns.  Best wishes

In our practice, we advise patients to wear a comfortable compression strap or bias wrap to improve compliance with post-op instructions. If the strap is uncomfortable, try to find one that is more comfortable and suitable for you. Best, DR. Karamanoukian Los Angeles

 I generally asked the patients to wear a chin strap for a few weeks after liposuction of the chin and neck when it is convenient. It is debatable whether it has any effect on the long-term outcome.

question. Having some discomfort after the procedure is not always uncommon;
having pain that would stop you from wearing your compression garment would be
a little more worrisome to me and I would suggest that you contact your
provider and see what they want to do – like seeing you to make sure there is
nothing wrong going on with you and your procedure. We do recommend that you
wear a compression garment after all of our liposuction procedures – all day
and night for the first week, and then every evening for several weeks
thereafter.
