I’m 5 days PO and I just left my one week follow up appointment. My PS said that everything looked alive and it was healing well but she also mentioned I had a blister by my incision. She did not expound on her comment. I didn’t even remember she noted it until I got home. The color started out pale, is now pink with a small black blister. Is this an early sign of necrosis? What can I do to prevent further damage? What are the long term effects?
Answer: Necrosis? Thank you for your question and photo. From what I can see you are healing very well. It is not uncommon to get a small blister from the tapes or steri-strips. They will typically heal well with local wound care. I do not see any evidence of necrosis. Please follow up with your surgeon as scheduled. Best wishes.

Answer: Necrosis Dear Floridamomofsix,it is hard to tell for sure without an examination, but based on your photos there are no signs of necrosis. If you are concerned, i suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Is this and early sign of skin necrosis after tummy tuck? Thank you for your pictures and questions. To really assess for necrosis, you would need an in-person exam and your plastic surgeon is best equipped to do this. A blister does not always mean a healing problem as this can be caused from tape or other dressings or irritation. Necrosis is a lack of blood flow and can lead to poor wound healing and open wounds. If you are using any form of nicotine, I would stop yesterday. Make sure to follow with your surgeon for more instructions for care.Good luck!Dallas R. Answer: Is this and early sign of skin necrosis after tummy tuck? Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. Though I can not see the blister in your photographs the most likely cause is from the taping of swollen tissues and this should resolve without a significant impact to your aesthetic result. I do not see any frank signs of necrosis so all is likely well. Hope this helps.

Answer: And early sign of necrosis? And early sign of necrosis? Thank you very much for this question. A blister by itself is not necessarily a sign of necrosis. The tape which was used for your tummy tuck incision can certainly lead to blister formation. At this point, you should reach out to your plastic surgeon and address these concerns that you have about possible necrosis. Your doctor will likely tell you if this is something that you need to worry about at this time. Additionally, you should ask if taking vitamin C while also working on deep breathing exercises and concentrating on your post operative instructions is something that will help you to reduce your risk and improve your outcome. Best wishes on your recovery and congratulations on your tummy tuck! Dr. Aldo
