Question

I got my lips injected yesterday with the Princess filler and I'm very happy how they look, but I have two big hard "bubbles" on my lower lips. They don't show but I can feel them. I also have a huge bruise on the lower lip. Are the "bubbles" just bruises or swelling? I'm very worried about them not going away

Lips are notorious for bruising. To have the bruising heal faster i would avoid taking any advil, alcohol or omegas as those are blood thinners. Yhe lower lip looks swollen creating that bubble look. I would wait two weeks to see how it looks like and would go see your health care provider if those bumps persist.

Thank you for your question. Bruising and swelling in the lips after injectables can be common so I suggest that you follow the recovery instructions provided by your board certified facial plastic surgeon. Please remain patient as bruising and swelling tends to subside after a couple weeks.

Anytime an injectable filler is used to enhance areas of the face bruising and swelling can occur.  The lips tend to bruise and swell more than any other area and can take up to 2 weeks to fully resolve.  I suggest waiting 2 weeks until your lips have settled to schedule a follow-up visit with your board certified plastic surgeon. Bruising and swelling are very common with lip injections and typically unrelated to the product used. The trauma is often due to the needle. Both bruising and swelling may take a couple weeks to resolve. if you are concerned or experience a new onset of pain, bursting of the bubbles, fever or discolouration to the surrounding skin, please follow up with your injector.

I always tell my patients to not love their filler injections for 2 weeks. Swelling is very common and sometimes immediate. It can last 3-7 days and a good idea is to use cold compresses. Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling only if needed. This may be applied for 3 minutes, 3 times per day, for up to 3 days. This is best done with a bag of peas in a zip lock bag. Only apply light pressure to the area but gentle massage might be necessary if the bump is from the filler material itself. Get Arnica gel if you can find some and apply a few times a day as well to help treat any swelling. Avoid any blood thinners. Bruising can also last 1-2 weeks. I don't recommend hyaluronidase this early and wait a few weeks until the swelling has resolved. If it is persistent or you are worried, set up a follow up appointment with your dermatologist.

It is very normal to experience post injection bruising and swelling. Particularly on the lips. They are very sensitive. It may take 2 weeks for the swelling to fully subside. Try taking arnica and avoid Advil etc.. This should help to speed up your healing.

Thats a nasty looking bruise you have. It is not uncommon to bruise from lip injections, but one thing you have to watch out for is occlusion of a blood vessel with the filler after the treatment is done. This can sometimes present like a bruise after treatment, but the area very quickly goes almost black in appearance, not quite like a normal bruise. One of the main signs this has happened is that the area is extremely painful. If I were your injector I would want to see you with a bruise like this to rule out possible occlusion if the area is painful. That said it could be just a perfectly normal bruise!

Bruising and "lumps or bumps" can happen after any filler is injected.  The lips are especially vascular, so bruising is more common than when filler is put into other areas of the face.  I tell my patients to wait approximately two weeks in order to allow all bruising and swelling to resolve.  If, after two weeks, there are any bumps left, I can get those to go away.Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your question! Some swelling, "lumps" and bruising is considered "normal" right after lip injections. The needle pokes alone can cause some tissue trauma that can result in some uneven swelling for up to two weeks. If you are in severe pain, running a fever, or have loss of feeling or color in the area this would indicate a serious problem and would require immediate medical attention. I would recommend reaching out to your injector for any specific questions you have as they can help to coach you in the healing process and help you understand "what to expect". If you do not feel comfortable reaching out to your injector, I would recommend meeting with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon's office for an assessment.
