My aunt is considering a facelift. She has a considerable amount of loose skin but also very, deep lines around the cheek, mouth, chin and lips. Even when you pull the skin and simulate a facelift the lines are still there. Does anyone have experience in combining the two?
Answer: Not a Good Combination I would not recommend performing the facelift and a chemical peel during the same procedure. The skin is undermined during a facelift, and the additional stress of a peel may compromise healing. It would be best to wait and stage these treatments. All the best to you and your aunt.

Answer: Combining facial procedures Undergoing a peel around the mouth at the same time as a facelift is a very common combo. I would not perform a full face peel and facelift at the same time but just around the mouth works well.

Answer: Facelift and Simultaneous Peel? Most experienced plastic surgeons would not perform a facelift and a deep peel, like a phenol/croton oil peel, or an aggressive laser treatment of the entire face at the same time. Because the potential complication rate of the combined procedures would be too high, the procedures should be performed separately, with the facelift first. Limited areas around the eyes or mouth can be treated with a peel or laser at the time of a facelift.Safety and limiting potential complications should always be the primary concern.Keep in mind that following the exact advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell anyone what to do without examining the patient, physicallyfeeling the tissue, assessing the desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of each operative procedure would not be in your aunt's best interest. I would suggest that she find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that she trusts and is comfortable with and discuss her and your concerns with that surgeon in person.Robert Singer, MD FACSLa Jolla, California

Answer: Can a facelift be combined with a full face phenol/croton oil peel? I would separate the two procedures for safety. Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of facelifts, necklifts, facelift revisions, and facial procedures each year. Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results. Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Facelift first then peel later A facelift reshapes and lifts the tissues, and a peel improves the quality of the skin but it is risky to do them both at the same time. Areas that are not lifted surgically such as the skin above and below the mouth and around the eyes can be done, but often it is best to wait and do the full face later since then the skin will all look the same.
