I had lip augmentation done today. The doctor injected Restylane silk into my top and bottom lip. He used 2cc's- 1cc for top and 1 cc for bottom- two full syringes in total. My lips are now painful, swollen and appear duck-like. I'm terrified. Everything I'm reading is telling me that 1cc between both lips is normal. I wanted a "natural" look. They also appear very uneven on the bottom and are brushing terribly. I also paid close to $1,500. I don't know what to do. Is this normal?!

Answer: Swelling Thank you for your question and photos. You are experiencing swelling which is very normal, especially following the injection of that much product. It is not unheard of to inject two syringes at the same time, although it is not something that I personally do very often. Give it time for the swelling to go down.Best of Luck,

Answer: Swelling after fillers The lips can swell fairly significantly after any manipulation or trauma such as injections or surgery. Bruising is also not uncommon. The swelling also may get worse after the first day, and patients will often wake up with significant swelling the day after injections. Swelling can take several days (or sometimes even longer) to resolve, so patients should be encouraged to be patient and remain calm. Keeping the head elevated, using cold packs immediately after injection, and limiting the trauma of the injection itself can all help to decrease swelling. Avoiding NSAIDs, aspirin, and other blood-thinning medications or supplements can help to decrease bruising, as can the technique of the injector. As always, a visit with a well-trained facial plastic surgeon is recommended. All the best,
