I had teardrop under the muscle implants in 2013. They look incredible but have always made sleeping uncomfortable. I have recently read about the risks associated with textured implants and considering replacing them with smooth round implants. What considerations do I need to make? Will smooth implants be more comfortable as they’ll be less firm than the teardrop? I’m assuming I’ll need to go under the muscle again? What is recovery time like? Can I get a biopsy at the same time?
Answer: Implant exchange I encourage you to begin by scheduling a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. If you are happy with the current size you can get similar volume with your new implants. It's difficult to say if they'll be more comfortable without knowing more about your concerns. Going under the muscle can be done again. Unless you are making significant changes your recovery should be fairly easy. Your muscle will already have stretched to accommodate your existing implants. Your surgeon will help guide you through this process.

Answer: Exchange The smooth round implants are usually softer than the textured implants and can still be kept behind the muscle. The capsules can be removed and submitted to the pathologist as well. The recovery will be similar to your first surgery, but the muscles will not have to be stretched. You might even consider going down in size if you want to sleep on your breasts.

Answer: Replacement of textured with smooth gel implants There should be no difference is shape and size providing that you select same size or slightly larger implants. Biopsy of implant capsule should be performed and send for routine citohystology. New implants should be placed in the same pocket unless there is specific reason to change a pocket. You should discuss this issue with your surgeon in details, before surgery. Good luck.

Answer: Implant type Dear sisternoon, breast implant type and sizing selection is a complicated process and requires a detailed consultation that includes a discussion of your goals, a detailed examination, and a lengthy discussion. But the decision will always start and end with the patient. When it comes to sizing, we have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements.Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If it is too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match.Of all of my breast augmentation patients, every one of them has been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. You don't want to invest time and money into a result that is either too big or too small. You should discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon and make sure that your surgeon understands your goals. Answer: Breast revision Hello ! Smooth silicone implants tend to settle more quickly and naturally in the body, providing a natural-looking hang. They also tend to last longer than textured implants and have less risk of rippling. Breast implants with a smooth surface located in the subfascial plane are associated with a four times higher risk of contracture compared to those with a textured surface in the same plane. Nonetheless, when both types of implants were placed in the submuscular plane, they exhibited similar risk levels for contracture. It is possible to get a biopsy at the same time. I would suggest to consult with an experienced surgeon well versed in breast revisions for the best results.
