Everything you included in your statement is correct and accurate. The problem is fundamentally based on facial skeletal bone structure, not soft tissues. It’s possible to have a projecting chin on a small mandible. Individuals whose lacking in projection are prone to developing a premature double chin and loss of jawline definition. Liposuction can give good improvements. There are basically three variables that determine someone’s Liposuction potential. The first is age which intern determines the degree of skin elasticity. The second is the amount of fat available to work with and the third and most important is provider selection. You look pretty young so I think your skin elasticity is probably excellent. You’re not chubby so there isn’t that much subcutaneous fat to work with. Provider selection is by far the most important variable and finding the right plastic surgeon is not easy or straightforward. Before even contemplating surgery, you should realize that applying soft tissue solutions to a problem that is based on bone structure is at best going to give you a partial improvement. Looking at before and after pictures always have your own pictures available to use that reference. Look for examples of previous patients who had very similar facial characteristics. That should mean they are a young man with the same type of bone structure and the same amount of subcutaneous as fat. Personally, I don’t think a platysma plasty or any other treatment is going to do too much for you. I wouldn’t get too heavy-handed with soft tissue surgery that is only going to give a mild improvement. Later in life and neck lift may be an option, but it’s not at your current age. You should at least talk to oral surgeons about form jaw surgery, though you may not want to go that route and I can understand why. Sometimes the best option is to just stop focusing on the problem and go on with life. There is no simple procedure that’s going to give you a great improvement. if a small change is justified for plastic Surgeons who have extensive experience with chin and neck liposuction. Finding the right provider is not at all easy or straightforward. In my opinion, it requires having multiple in person consultations. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had very similar characteristics to your own. Always bring a proper set of facial pictures of yourself to use as reference preferably imprinted format. Don’t rely on memory of what your face looks like when you reviewing before, and after pictures. Take carefully notes during the consultation, especially regarding the quality and quantity of before and after pictures. Do this for whatever procedure the surgeon recommends. If they give you options, then ask them to show you before and after pictures of each of the different procedures, they are suggesting. highly experienced surgeons should have no lack of before and after pictures. If they don’t have a quality collection of before and after pictures and then that’s your first red flag to keep looking. I think ideally they should have at least 10 to 20 sets before and after pictures. Highly experienced surgeons should have access to hundred of before and after pictures to choose from. Make sure the neck angle is the same and before and after pictures. People can lead to temptation surgeons are no different. It’s pretty easy to manipulate the results by simply asking the patient to tilt their head back adjust a little bit. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you have the better of an understanding you’ll have and the more likely you are to find the better provider for your needs. When down slow down and scheduled more consultations. If you can really find the right provider, the Liposuction may be worthwhile. Average plastic surgeons give average result and average Liposuction in your case isn’t going to be all that great. This is a finesse procedure and just going in and sucking out fat is not going to give you the results you’re looking for. Sometimes this simply isn’t a good solution and you should always keep that in mind when Contemplating a permanent irreversible surgical procedure. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
