My chin looks fine when resting but when I smile it points out very dramatically. What procedure can I do to get rid of this?
Answer: Consider a trial of Botox. Based on your photos, your chin does not appear droopy when you're not smiling. Since this is occurring while you are smiling, it is conceivable that botox injections to your mentalis muscle might be helpful for decreasing the droopiness. An examination would be necessary to determine this. Thank you for this question. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Smile This is due to your mentalis muscle flexing-- you could try botox to minimize this muscle action similar to how people get masseter botox for facial slimming.

Answer: Addressing Chin Ptosis: Treatment Options and Considerations Chin ptosis, or the drooping of the chin, can become more pronounced when smiling due to muscle movement and skin laxity. Here are some procedures that may help address this concern: Chin Tuck (Submental Liposuction): This procedure removes excess fat beneath the chin, which can help improve the contour and reduce the appearance of ptosis when smiling. Chin Lift (Platysmaplasty): This surgical procedure tightens the muscles and skin around the chin and neck area, which can help reduce drooping and create a firmer appearance. Dermal Fillers: Injectable fillers can be used strategically to add volume and support to the chin area, potentially reducing the appearance of ptosis when smiling. Botox: Botox injections can relax specific muscles that contribute to the downward pull of the chin when smiling, offering a non-surgical option to help improve the appearance. Chin Reduction Surgery: If the issue is related to the bone structure, a reduction surgery may be considered to reshape the chin and prevent it from protruding when smiling. Consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon or facial cosmetic specialist will help determine the most appropriate treatment based on your anatomy and desired outcome.

Answer: Strong, chin projection The chin will project further when smiling on all people. The only treatment for reducing a large chin is a chin reduction. This is a pretty complex procedure and is sometimes done by plastic surgeons and sometimes done by oral surgeons. To do this other than formal chin reduction, which is a bit of a complex procedure. If this bothers you enough that you’re willing to have surgery, then consult with oral surgeons or plastic surgeons in your community.Do you want to make absolutely sure that you find a provider who has extensive experience with the procedure before moving forward if you want to have treatment. Chin reduction is not that common of an operation and I am guessing that oral surgeons may have more overall experience with it.Best,Mats Hagstrom MD
