I'm considering a breast lift and augmentation and I'm wondering if all breast lifts leave a vertical scar? This is a concern of mine. If so, are there any other methods that don't have obvious scarring? Thank you.
Answer: Not all lifts have a vertical scar, but most do. There is a technique known as a benelli periareolar lift, which uses a scar around the areola to gather up and lift the surrounding skin. The downside is the possible stretching and dilation of the areola. The technique requires as permanent suture to prevent the the stretching of the areola. If this suture fails, the areola may dilated and result in an undesirable post lift appearance.

Answer: After breast lift, scars can be treated with laser treatments to help reduce appearance as much as possible Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars. Answer: Breast lifts and scars Hello, thank you for your question. That is a very common concern with this surgery so you are not alone. To really get a lift of your breast tissue with typically implement either a vertical lift (lolipop) or sometimes depending on the degree of breast ptosis or sagging we will recommend a horizontal and vertical lift (anchor scar). The scars are not the most aesthetic in appearance in the first year. After that they tend to fade. There are some treatments for lighter scars including medical tattooing filling in pigment where it lacks or depending on how your scars heal there can be options. Speak to your plastic surgeon about your concerns. Check out our before and after gallery for a better idea.

Answer: Scars Dear maria254, for scars, I close all of my incisions in 5 layers and do not use absorbable sutures because they cause inflammation and worse scarring. I tape all of my incisions in the office visits once a week for six weeks after surgery to improve the appearance. After taping, I start my patients on a scar gel therapy for 3 months that they have to put on their incisions twice daily. You should discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon as different surgeons have different approaches in scar management. Answer: Incisions All incisions result in a scar, although most are very acceptable after they are mature. There are different kinds of lifts that have different incision patterns. There are some that go around the areola only. These incisions are often hidden within the pigmentation of the areola. There are also anchor and vertical lifts which do involve an incision down the center of the breast. It is important to select the type of lift that will give you the best outcome based on your anatomy and surgical goals.
