The left implant appears to be higher. This could either be the result of pocket malposition or some degree of capsular contracture on the left. Either may require surgical revision. Oftentimes it is prudent to wait until 12 months from surgery to see how the pockets ultimately settle, but at 9 months out it is not unreasonable to start have discussions regarding your concerns.

Please post your before photos so that I can see the shape of your breasts prior to breast augmentation. Frequently, subtle differences in a person's natural breast shape persists or is amplified after breast augmentation. Another common cause of a persistently elevated breast implant is capsular contracture. An in person examination will help diagnose the problem.

Hello and thank you for your question! I see the asymmetry to which you are referring and I agree it can be frustrating to see some differences between the two sides. One thing we do not see here is how your anatomy was prior to breast augmentation (before photos). If you had pre-existing asymmetry in the position of the breast folds (IMFs), nipples, and/or footprint of the breasts, this would be less surprising post operatively as implants can sometimes magnify these small asymmetries. At this point, (between 9-12 months post op) the tissues are finishing maturing and massage/bandeau use may be of some but not drastic help. Discussing revision options with your surgeon or asking for a second opinion from a board-certified plastic surgeon in person would be your next best steps, in my opinion. A physical exam would be needed to rule out early capsular contracture, which would need a certain type of revision surgery. Without capsular contracture, other revision options include capsulotomies, lowering the IMF on the left, and using a different implant with less upper pole fullness.

Current breast asymmetry may be result of implant capsular contracture, breast asymmetry which was present before surgery but not brought to your attention(Preoperative photos would help), as well as implant placement in different position during surgery. Surgical correction by means of lowering higher riding implant is needed and that can be done now( 6 months after surgery is quite enough waiting time). Second opinion consultation with another plastic surgeon with good reputation in breast surgery, is recommended. Good luck.

Thank you for your question. If the higher side is firm or at one time sat in a lower position then I would be concerned for capsular contracture based on the photo. If both are soft and the higher side has always been higher, then I think at this point the lower pocket needs to be released to allow the implant to come down. Based on the photos, I do think you would benefit from a revision to help with the symmetry.

You have textured implants so they are already settled. One is higher because of the pocket. Your surgeon can go back and lower the pocket so that the implant can settle down better. We have more nonsurgical options for smooth implants.

Breast asymmetry that is present prior to augmentation may appear more noticeable after the procedure if not specifically addressed during surgery. At this time you can visit with your surgeon to discuss your concerns and options, which may include revision.
