New pain in breasts 7 months post op

If you were my patient, I would want to know about these new symptoms and would ask you to come to the office for a detailed examination. More than likely, the pain is due to a benign process like perichondritis (inflammation of the covering of the ribs or muscle irritation). But, it is important to rule out other causes.

Thank you for your question. It is not unusual to have discomfort many months after breast augmentation. Also supportive garments in the beginning of postoperative period helps with the recovery. However, It is a good idea to follow with your surgeon.

The discomfort may be from your own breast tissue or from a capsule. I would suggest going back to your surgeon and being examined.

Since this pain is new I encourage you to visit your surgeon for an evaluation. Though some minor discomfort could be related to many things such as hormonal changes, activity level, etc it is best to be assessed to rule out any concerns.

There are many possible causes of breast pain at 7 months after surgery. The best approach would be a follow-up visit with your pastic surgeon for an examination and a discussion of your concerns. The causes of your pain could include (but are not limited to) the following:
1) Trauma
2) Too tight an underwire (or sports) bra. (Wire too tight laterally)
3) An unsupported breast especially with exercise or activity,
4) Early scar contracture
