Do I need mastopexy or augmentation?

I have recently lost 3 stone after giving birth and breast feeding and feel like my breasts are extremely saggy for a 22 year old. Do I need a procedure or are they normal for my age? I feel uncomfortable with my husband with my body

The obvious answer to your question is dependent upon how you see yourself.  Motherhood, especially at a young age, is a beautiful thing.  You get to grow up right along with your children.  If you are wasting psychological energy pretending you are not unhappy with your body, you will have less of that energy to spend on your children.  If you were my patient, I would recommend a lift along with the augmentation.  That way, you can have younger, perkier breasts which tend to make individuals feel better about themselves.  This can release the psychological energy which very often translates into a happier self image, and I truly believe in the old saw "when Momma is happy, everyone is happy".

Based on the photos, I think an augmentation would re-inflate your breast tissue and avoid the vertical scar of a mastopexy. I would discuss this with a board certified plastic surgeon and have an in person exam. Good Luck!

I think you really have more deflation than true sagging. I think you would do well with just a breast augmentation. This will refill what you have deflated. Good luck.

Thank you for your question and photos. You appear to have asymmetry with the right breast larger and slightly lower than the left. It looks like a lift will be required in addition to placement of breast implants. I do not think you will achieve a satisfactory result with either augmentation or a lift alone. It is best to have an in-person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in cosmetic breast surgery. Ask to see a lot of before and after photos of their work. It would appear that you will do fine with an augmentation alone. Your breast of a very good shape they just appear to have lost their volume. I would suggest seeing a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area who can do an exam, take some measurements and You can work with them on determining the volume that will work best for you.Good luck!

The question of need is hard to answer in the world of cosmetic surgery.  I get asked this question a lot.  "what do I need?"  I almost always answer in the same way - no one "needs" cosmetic surgery.  It becomes a value equation.  How much does the look and shape of your breasts bother you? Does it effect your sense of self-image, are those thoughts interrupting your intimacy with your spouse?  Does the time off work, pain, scars, recovery and cost become restrictive?  Consider these questions in relation to your breasts.  If the answer to the questions is strong enough to make the pain, cost, scars, and recovery worthwhile then the value for you could justify surgery.  Hope this helps.  Best wishes.

Volume loss is quite common after pregnancy and breast feeding and unlikely to be restored with a breast lift alone. You might consider breast augmentation first and see how the addition of volume helps with the breast envelope or sag.  This approach might help you avoid breast scars which have issues all their own.

Pregnancy can stretch the skin and lead to thinning of breast tissue with time. If you are concerned about shape, a mastopexy can help restore shape. An augmentation can help with volume. Sometimes patients need both procedures on the same side . A mastopexy augmenation can be done in one or two stages. However, this is a challenging thing to fix and it is important to find a board certified plastic surgeon who listens, understands your goals and has the skill set to help you achieve it. The position and size of the breast will often change significantly after pregnancy.  You appear to have a loss of volume, but little ptosis (drooping of the breast).  Without ptosis, your issue can often be treated with an augmentation procedure.  It may require a minimal lifiting procedure as well, but that decision can not always be predicted prior to the procedure.  The most important issue is timing.   You should not have any procedure until the size and position of the breast has stabilized.  This may take many months following pregnancy.  As always, it is important to personally consult with a board-certified Plastic Surgeon.
