Hi Deborah,Yes, you can get pregnant after a body lift. Since 2000, I have performed hundreds of 360 circumferential lower body lifts. Since 2000, I have had over 20 patients successfully deliver healthy children after a 360 circumferential lower body lift. Two patients even had twins. All babies are born full-term without any significant difficulty. After pregnancy, none of my patients have needed revisions of their 360 circumferential lower body lifts. Ideally, it would be better to have the 360 circumferential lower body lift after you are done with pregnancies. If you are planning to get pregnant within the next year, I would wait on having the 360 circumferential lower body lift.I hope this answers your questions about pregnancy after a body lift. If you have any questions.. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen
Medically speaking, yes - it is possible to have a healthy pregnancy after a body lift procedure. The removal of the skin and the tightening of the abdominal muscles is all done outside of the part of the abdominal wall that holds the internal organs such as the uterus in place, so the ability to have children is not affected in any way.Cosmetically speaking, it is not ideal to get pregnant after a body lift. A body lift is considered a big surgery from both a recovery and financial perspective. The skin and muscles would re-stretch after a pregnancy, so you may lose some of the results that you obtained from the body lift. After childbirth the abdomen may flatten back down somewhat, but it will likely never revert to how you looked after your body lift procedure because of the stretching of both the skin and muscles. Also, if you gain weight with pregnancy you may also notice changes to the back or sides. If you are interested in body contouring but are still wanting to have children there are some less-invasive, more cost-effective options that you might be interested in. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction technique that freezes the fat at such an optimal temperature that only the fat cells do not survive. It results in loss of fat cells to the treated area, which gives the patient a more toned or sculpted look. It is usually done in the office and you can return to work the same day. Although this may not be the most ideal results, as it does not address issues of excess skin such as with a body lift, it may be more reasonable in the short term and you can get a body lift procedure after you are done having children. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss you specific desires.Best,Nagi Ayoub, MD, FACS
