My husband hit my nose in cast 5 days post op from surgery. Can bones shift from this? (Photo)

My nose was broken in 3 places and I was physically disfigured. My ENT did surgery to put the bones back in place. It has be 5 days after surgery and my husband just hit me with his arm in my sleep and now I have a headache behind my eye. Is it possible he shifted any of the bones? I have a before surgery picture if it helps.

Any nasal trauma in this early postop period can disfigure the results.  Splints can help support the results somewhat but not against excessive trauma.  At this point, follow up with your surgeon to see how the nose is doing once the splint is removed.

With a cast and place it is very unlikely that the nasal bones were removed.  When the cast comes off if there is any evidence of bones moving, they can be pushed back into midline as they're still malleable.RegardsDr. J

Well, an injury after surgery can cause the bones to shift.  Over the years, having performed thousands of nasal surgeries, an occasional patient has had this sort of injury whether from  spouse or boyfriend, or a big dog, or their toddler, or from a variety of mishaps.  Fortunately, most of the time no injury occurs. On occasion some shifting of the bones occurs but can be addressed with massage, as directed by me (or in your case, your surgeon). There has been an occasion where an injury occurred that necessitated a surgical correction.So, of course, my advice is to contact your surgeon right away.Good luck!

I am sorry to hear about your recent trauma to your nose.  Yes, it is possible to have some shift in the nasal structures, depending upon how firmly the nose was struck.  Your surgeon should be able to assess this for you.
