It is common to have swelling after liposuction. Think of the swelling like a sponge that soaks up water. The swelling is in the tissues and not likely a collection that can be drained. Opening the incisions will not do you any good and could in fact do harm. Give it time and the swelling will get better. If you have any specific concerns please see your plastic surgeon.
Usually, fluid only drains out of the incision for a day and then it seals. The rest of the fluid will be absorbed in nearly all cases. If you are doing post-liposuction massage, that will help. It is rare to have to drain fluid from liposuctioned areas. Keep your surgical follow up appointments and let your surgeon examine and advise you further, but there is likely little to worry about.
I do not recommend opening any incisions follow up with your PS to discuss your concerns and he or she can advise you what to do.
TeamLibra. I appreciate your concern, but any remaining fluid injected during your liposuction procedure will be absorbed safely by your body. No need to do anything at all!. Follow up with your board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.
No, do not open your incisions. The body will gradually reabsorb the fluid. I recommend following up with your Doctor about after care recommendations. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Thanks for your question. I would NOT re-open the incisions. The fluid will naturally get absorbed by your body and that is not necessary. I'd call your surgeon and get further instructions. Best wishes on your recovery.
The fluid is gradually resorbed by the body. Some surgeons do leave the incisions open, but this has no effect on the long term results. Do not re-open them and continue to follow your surgeon's post-op instructions.
Why have you Not returned to see your chosen clinic surgeon? He is the one to ask this serious postoperative question to. Reopening closed incisions usually not a good idea. I might think doing sterile needle aspiration technique.
Thank you for your question. The fluid that remains will be adsorbed by your body. Opening your incisions can increase risk of infection and lead to poor wound healing. Swelling after liposuction is to be expected and this resolves slowly over the 3-6 months following surgery. I would recommend you continue close care with your surgeon and follow all postoperative instructions she/he has provided. Best of luck with your recovery.
