Can I accidentally displace Restylane Lyft by rubbing area only ONE time?

I tell my patients not to adjust their own product: "Please do not go home and run into the backside of a spoon." You can "adjust" these products enough to make a dent or hole.  In my office, I will ask you to pay for more product to fix the problem.  I work very hard to adjust the service at the time it is placed.  However, a certain percentage of cases do benefit from an adjustment.  Usually we wait about 1 week for this.  I recommend letting the dust settle for a couple of days and if you still are having an issue, come clean with your injector and get your service adjusted or fixed.

This is difficult to answer without an in-person evaluation. If you're concerned, I recommend following up with your injector. There can be some swelling, tenderness and/or lumps after injections, which can last 1-2 weeks. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. A single massage after Restylane Lyft should not be sufficient to displace the product.  Typically, the product is placed deep and would not be moved or altered with minimal massage.  It is best to follow up with your provider to address your concerns.  You may have a small area of bruising that feels like a lump.  If so, this should resolve with time, but your provider can perform an evaluation to determine the exact cause.

Its hard to displace filler that is placed over the bone like Restylane Lift. But if you are concerned, why not touch base with your doctor to discuss further. 

Thank you for your question.  It's difficult to make exact recommendations without assessing you in-person.  That said, Restylane Lyft is injected relatively deeply into the skin, and it's unlikely that 30 seconds of massage significantly displaced your filler.  The Restylane products are prone to swelling and massaging and rubbing the treated areas can sometimes cause additional swelling.  I would recommend following-up with your injector to discuss your concerns.  Best of luck!    

It's not possible to say whether the lump is the filler material or something else such as a hematoma or an inflammatory reaction.  I would suggest that you return to see your injector.  Typically I inject Restylane Lyft in a deep location and this helps to minimize any lumpiness.  Regards,Dr. Ort

It is not possible to displace filler with a small massage. It is possible that you might have aggravated the area and that is why it feels more tender and swollen. If you notice a lump or bump at the injection site, it could possibly be due to bruising. It is important to leave the area alone after you have had fillers, and allow it time to heal.
