Is it normal to hear a crunching sound when Restylane Lyft is being injected into cheek?

I had Restylane Lyft injected in my cheek and I was wondering if it's normal to hear and feel cracking sounds when it's being injected. I got nervous that I was being injected with something else.

Sounds heard can be from the needle itself (especially dull needles) or tissue displacement.  The sounds are typically inconsequential to your final result.  Best Dr. Shah

Thank you for your question about Restylane Lyft and hearing a crunching sound when injected. It is very common to hear and feel things you have never before while having filler injections. Often there can be popping sensations as we push the needle through the layers of tissues. As the filler is being injected it is common to feel or hear crackling type noises. This is the product being pushed into the spaces in the tissues. .

Hi GirlyGirl!Yes! This sound is totally normal. It is probably produced by friction as the dermal filler slides out of the syringe. Restylane Lyft is a great filler and it is very safe. My patients love the results with this filler. The sound causes no damage to you. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)

It's not typical, but it's unlikely that it will negatively impact your results. Keep in mind that you may have some swelling, which will last 1-2 weeks. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

In my experience, this only happens when the needle gets dull. Could have been a dud needle.  It is not something specific to Restylane Lyft.

Thank you for your question. While the sound can be unnerving, it’s in fact very common for dermal filler injections to cause a small crunching sound. The sound is often caused by the product being pushed out of the syringe, and can be minimized by changing out needles frequently so they don’t get dull. Your results shouldn’t be affected.

Great question!  It is not uncommon, and not a worry,  to hear "crunching" or "cracking" sounds during the injection of facial fillers, including Restylane.  Patients often hear crunching when Botox or Dysport is injected as well, particularly on the forehead.  Enjoy your filler!

Hearing the sound when you are getting injected is completely normal and as a result of the filler displacing the tissues, as it advances through the muscle. this is most common when fillers are injected in the cheeks or areas where injections are deep and over the bone. Yes, this is normal.  In my practice we call this an "electrical shock."  It is normal to hear that.  It is possible to hear that with any of the fillers.
