T-Junction wound: 2 weeks post breast reduction and tummy tuck, just had my tape removed on 1/11. (Photos)

Question

When they removed the tape from my right breast there was a small opening at he t junction. I know this is common, but what is the typical healing process look like? Should I expect I to get worse before it gets better? 2 Days Post tape removal the wound looks bigger, with more fibrin. At what point should the white be cleaned away?

It is very common to have delayed healing of these delicate areas. Your surgeon will manage this for you. It may require antibiotic creams. Even though these areas are small, they can take weeks to heal and sometimes longer. They rarely affect the outcome or final breast appearance.

JM1204.   It is not unusual to have delayed healing in the area noted in your photograph after breast reduction or breast lift. Check in with your surgeon regarding wound care, but generally speaking, clean it daily with soap and water and cover it with antibiotic ointment. It should heal secondarily uneventfully over the next 1 to 2 weeks. Best of luck.

I appreciate your question. The wounds take time to heal and a few patients can get worse before getting better. However, the prognosis is generally good and healing takes several weeks. I suggest you speak at length with your plastic surgeon’s office about wound care techniques. Certainly, avoiding excessive and strenuous activity will help tremendously. I also find certain supplements important for wound healing also help. Some supplements to consider include vitamins A, B, C, and D. You can also consider fish oil, zinc, and bromelain.Always talk to your surgeon before doing or starting anything new. Best wishes. Dr. Aldo

These wounds are not uncommon and usually take a few weeks to heal.  Continue to follow the wound care advice of your plastic surgeon and keep follow up appointments.  Based on your photos the wounds do not appear to be infected.

You have a small area of superficial skin compromise.  It will likely not get bigger and is fairy common after this type of surgery.  You may have some oozing from the area but nothing needs to be cleaned away.  Simply care for the area as the surgeon directs and it will heal over a matter of  weeks.

Thanks for the question and photo.
It is not unusual to have a small wound at the "T" portion of the incision on the bottom following breast reduction.  Keep it clean and dry.  If you like, use some antibiotic ointment like Bacitracin/Neomycin.  It should heal in a couple of weeks.
