8 lb. weight gain 4 days after BA, advice?

Hi all! I had my breast augmentation surgery Monday. My implants were modest, 175CC smooth silicone modplus. I havent been eating much less than normal. I weighed myself today and saw that I had gained 8lbs! How is this possible? I take 50 mcg of Levoxithyrone. I cant tell if this is water retention from the hydrocodone, diazepam or what. I am a pretty fit person and this weight gain makes me want to work out sooner rather than later. Is this amount of weight gain normal??

Thanks for the question. Have no fear, it is very normal to gain weight after Breast augmentation. Most patients are probably 10 pounds heavier a week after surgery which is due to the swelling associated with the surgical procedure. Good luck I’m sure it will resolve.

Water retention and constipation may be possible culprits for weight gain post breast augmentation surgery. On occasion I have seen the medication Celebrex to be the cause. minoo66.  Weight gain after surgery is normal because of postop swelling and meds given during anesthesia. Try to stay patient as it will resolved over the next week or so. Good luck

Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your breast augmentation!  It is common for patients to have water retention after surgery which can take a week or more to dissipate. As your body heals you will see this weight come off naturally.  Hang in there!

This is probably related to fluid retention after surgery which is common, although 8 pounds seems excessive. I would recommend checking your weight again daily. If it stays elevated see your surgeon for further evaluation.

Hi minoooThe weight gain is due to fluid retention due to the stress/trauma of surgery.  If you are not having problems breathing you are fine for now.  You may see swelling in your feet and ankles if they dangle for a while.  The fluid weight gain usually resolves on its own by about two weeks.I would let your doctor know first thing on Monday. If at any time you have problems with breathing, seek help immediately.  sek

It is possible for you to gain weight after surgery with fluid retention, and if so, it should resolve over time.  Given that you also take thyroid supplementation, it may worthwhile to see your primary care physician to make sure you are not experiencing hypothyroid symptoms.  At this early period after your surgery, you should definitely not be working out or returning to the gym.  Hope this helps!
