"Drop and fluff" refers to the fact that as the skin stretches and the muscles relax, the implants move down and out slowly – about 1 percent a day. It’ll be about six weeks before they even begin to settle down, but they’ll be close to 80 percent settled and softened at three months. Watching their progress is like watching your hair grow. You don’t see a difference in your hair growth daily, but all of a sudden you need a haircut. Be patient after surgery. Give yourself a few months before making a judgment about your surgical results. You won't know the outcome until then. Your increased volume will make it easier to push your breasts closer in clothes.Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and AuthorPhila., Pa.
Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and congratulations on your breast augmentation. Initially after surgery the swelling in your breast skin and underlying muscle causes the implants to appear wide and high against your chest. As this swelling resolves you should see the silicone gel redistribute within the implant into the lower portion of each breast giving you a more natural appearance (drop and fluff). This typically occurs in the 6-8 week range. I know it is difficult but hang in there and allow your results more time to mature.
You did not share with us how far out from surgery you are but if you were my patient and this were your appearance a week or so after surgery, I would recommend to you to wear an elastic upper bandeau 24/7 for a week or two or three. Please discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon and do not consider this email as "advice". Any recommendations made in this forum should be discussed and supervised by your surgeon who knows best exactly what operation you had done. Best of luck to you.
emassey84. It takes several weeks for implants to fluff and settle and even longer for larger implants like yours. Try to stay patient and allow your body to recover and become accustomed to the breast implants. Stay in contact with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck.
Dear emassey84,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a breast augmentation surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively. At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues around the implants are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides and the implants drop to their final position, you will be able to see the final result of your breast augmentation surgery.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello, if your surgery was only a few days ago you should notice your breast appearance change for at least several months. It's not uncommon for implants to look quite high at first. I would suggest ongoing assessments and discussion with your surgeon.
It generally takes 3-6 months to see the final appearance of your breasts with tissue stretch, implant settling, resolution of inflammation, and scar maturation all playing a role. Both breasts may also heal at different rates. Therefore my recommendation at this point is to have patience while your breasts settle, sometimes the implants do look unnaturally high in the beginning. Congratulations on your recent breast augmentation!
It is not uncommon to have pain and areas of tenderness after your surgery, and sternal pain suggests the your surgeon released your muscle edge. The pain should go away in a few weeks, however, have patience and give it time. Hope this helps! Congratulations on your recent...
Thanks for the question. After 6-8 weeks your surgery area is totally healed and yes you can dancing and also do other activities. I wish you all the best.
Migraines are not specifically related to breast augmentation, but you may be experiencing some bodily disturbance due to your surgery (stress, new medication, dehydration) which is triggering the migraines. Best to have your PCP check it out if it persists. Hope...
