How often should I wash my tummy tuck binder?

I had my tummy tuck and breast augmentation with lift three days ago, and I only have one binder at the moment, how often should I start washing it? does it need to be done daily? or is every few days OK? I'm not bleeding or leaking, so its not getting soiled at all, thank you

your abdominoplasty binder can be washed every few days.  The wounds should be covered with sterile dressing at the time of surgery, but after they are changed at your followup appointment the wound should be closed and no longer have much risk of infection.

A soft comfortable t-shirt that doesn't constrict your breast augmentation worn underneath the compression garment usually tends to help with irritation and comfort and keeps the compression garment cleaner over a longer period of time.  Check with your plastic surgeon's patient coordinator to determine washing instructions as not all plastic surgeons purchase garments from the same manufacturer.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  If the garment is not being soiled you can wait a couple of days between washing so as to remove any dry skin.  Hope this helps.

If it is not soiled, washing your garment every few days or so is fine.  Many cannot be put in the dryer, so check for laundering instructions.  A good time for washing is while you are taking your own shower so it has a little time to dry.

I would wash it based on how often it gets soiled.  There is no need to wash it more frequently than that.
