How long does Botox for a gummy smile take to show effects?

I had Botox for my gummy smile done exactly a week ago, and so far I haven’t noticed changes whatsoever. Do the changes come all of a sudden? I don’t feel a thing, I have full movement of my upper lip, and gums are still very visible.

Botox takes full effect at 2 weeks so I advise my patients to wait until that 2 week mark in order to evaluate if the appropriate dose of Botox was used. Typically you do see some effect after a few days or 1 week though. If you are not seeing any change at the 1 week mark, it is possible that you will want to do a little more Botox. I would make an appt to see the provider who injected you at the 2 week mark to see.

Thank you for your question. Results from Botox are generally visible within 5-10 days after being administered and last for approximately 3-4 months. If you’d prefer quicker results after the injections wear off, you may want to consider Dysport for your next treatment.
Dysport is a neuromodulator similar to Botox and the results last for about the same amount of time. However, onset can be quicker with results sometimes visible 2-3 days after the formula is injected. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified injector who can address your concerns and help you decide on the best formula for you.

Every patient is different.  Some patients see full results in just a few days, and with others it takes longer.  I always tell my patients to wait two weeks to allow their injections to take full effect.  If at two weeks patients still have concerns, we can make adjustments. With gummy smile injections, this is an advanced injection technique so some non-expert injectors may get poor results or complications. Hi, that is a great question! Botox is at its peak at the two week mark after injection. I would recommend waiting the full two weeks for final results. If you are not noticing a difference at the two week mark it could be due to under dosing. You may need to increase the botox dosing for that area of concern.
