Yes, a stable diabetic can have liposuction provided their diabetes is under good control, and they pass a pre-op medical clearance.
Terrific question.Ido agree that most well controlled diabetics will do great after havingliposuction. That being said, it isimportant to clear this in advance with both your primary care doctor and yourendocrinologist.I do feel strongly thatpatients have their hemoglobin A1c with a good control prior to undergoing anelective procedure.
Hello, and thank you for this question. As stated in the previous surgeons response I do not believe well controlled diabetes would be a contraindication to liposuction. I would recommend a general medical clearance prior to any cosmetic procedures. Although we have an accredited outpatient surgical facility staff staffed with board certified anesthesiologist, I believe any patient that has diabetes and takes insulin should be done in either a hospital or an outpatient surgical setting which can specifically monitor the glucose levels before during and after the procedure. Can all be discussed with a qualified experienced board certified plastic surgeon.
Diabetes is not an absolute contraindication for Liposuction. However like many procedures there is an increased risk for infection if the diabetes is not under good control. We usually ask for a medical clearance from your internist. We also obtain hemoglobin A-1 C level which is a good indicator of diabetes control. We recommend that you only consider liposuction If you are near your optimal BMI.
Thank you for the question. Diabetes is not a contraindication to surgery unless the patient is poorly controlled because this can lead to complications. A medical clearance is required before liposuction. All the best,Dr. Khuthaila
Thank you for your question. Uncontrolled diabetes would be concerning and a contraindication in my practice. Controlled diabetes is fine.
Diabetics that are in stable health can have liposuction. Most the time it can be performed with sedation and local anesthesia.
Hi,Having diabetes or hypertension , or many other medical conditions - is not an out right contraindication for liposuction. the most important pre-requisite is to have all your medical issue well under control.meet your physician and a qualified PS for a further discussion.
Being diabetic is not a contraindication for Liposuction surgery provided there are no other contraindications.Surgeons tend to be cautious due to increased risk of wound healing complications seeing in diabetic patients.
The real question is whether your diabetes is under good control such that your endocrinologist or internist would be comfortable clearing you for surgery. I would suggest that you address this to your medical doctor first before seeing plastic surgeons. Best of luck!
If issues are back related than that is where the problem is coming from. Not the 30 year post lipo areas...
It is common for labia in women and the scrotum in males to become bruised, black and blue, after a tummy tuck. The simple explanation is that even a few drops of deep blood move down fascial planes with gravity and lymphatic flow to this area. It will resolve in most cases rather promptly....
You have two options. The nonsurgical option is extra compression of the area of the seroma formation. If this does not work, I would suggest not placing another drain but placing progressive tension sutures to obliterate the potential space.
