I have a rhino consult and I can’t decide if I’d like to add a lower belpharoplasty for genetic bags or a genioplasty/chin plant. Could anyone recommend based on my picture?
Answer: Have a consult for rhinoplasty should I add lower eyelid surgery or a chin implant? The photograph presented is inadequate in order to make a determination about lower eyelid surgery. In our practice, we frequently perform rhinoplasty and chin implants when needed for an overly projecting nose, and an under projecting chin. It is certainly acceptable to undergo lower eyelid surgery if you have enough puffy bags present from the front view. We remove the bags through a trans conjunctival approach on the inside of the lower lids, and perform only closed rhinoplasty. Digital computer imaging on both your nose and chin would be helpful to understand what can be accomplished with the procedure.

Answer: Combination of rhinoplasty genioplasty versus chin implant versus lower lid left plasty combination good idea Based on your one only posted view photo I would based on that one posted photo recommend only rhinoplasty and chin implant. Do not do lower eyelids at the same time as a rhinoplasty. Will be swollen much longer than normal. Expect expect fees to range from $8000-$25,000. Best virtual consult with

Answer: Adding Procedures It’s not clear from your post if you’ve had the consultation or if you’re going to have the consultation. If you’re going to have the consultation, then you can ask the provider what their thoughts are regarding your chin and lower eyelids. From your picture picture I don’t see any issues with your lower eyelid and I’m generally fairly conservative when it comes to lower eyelid surgery, especially removing tissue. Your jawline is excellent with very good definition and you have fairly good projection of your mentalist or chin region of your mandible.Your labiomental angle is ideal and I see no reason to change that. Further projection of your chin can create a bulky masculine appearance. On your profile picture, your lower lip has slightly longer forward projection than your upper lip, and this tells me that your dental occlusion is probably normal and you don’t have a deficit in regards to mandible size. I do not see a good indication for lower eyelid or chin surgery. Your medial maxilla projects quite a bit and this is making your nose look slightly bigger than it actually is. I suggest you stick with the rhinoplasty surgery and see how that goes to start with. Adding too many variables can make things a bit messy and complicated. I generally like to see a strong indication for surgery before someone has elective cosmetic surgery. I think there’s a good indication for rhinoplasty, but the other procedures have weaker justifications. The picture you included doesn’t allow us to assess your lower eyelids. Always include a complete set of pictures for assessments for surgery or surgical outcomes. The single picture you’ve included is good quality, but it’s always important to see things from different angles. We cannot make frontal assessments based on profile pictures. I do recommend people always have multiple consultations before selecting a provider. Having only one consultation will inherently limit your ability to choose a better provider. Rhinoplasty surgery is inherently complex. The number of plastic surgeons who approach mastery of this kind of surgery is quite small. Look for plastic surgeons who focus exclusively on rhinoplasty surgery or have this as a major part of their practice and has for at least one or two decades. Bring a complete set of pictures of your face to use as reference during the consultation. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar facial characteristics to your own. Don’t rely on memory for reference when reviewing before, and after pictures. Have pictures of your own face readily available to use when reviewing before and after pictures to make sure providers are showing you previous patients who had the same characteristics as your own. In my opinion, the default should be no surgery unless there’s a clear indication for obvious improvement.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
