I like the front view of my nose but hate the side view of it. Would my nose need to be broken to remove the hump I have? And could I do a closed rhinoplasty?
Answer: Would my nose need to be broken in order to remove my dorsal hump A closed Rhinoplasty approach should be fine to address this problem. Most of the time when you remove the dorsal hump you have to perform osteotomies to prevent the nose from looking to wide.

Answer: Would my nose need to be broken in order to remove my dorsal hump? When the hump is refined, you may benefit from slightly narrowing the nasal bones to prevent a wider flatter appearance to the bridge of the nose. That is performed with an osteotomy, an incision in the bone which allows it to be subtly narrowed. It is different from a "breaking" of the bone which lacks precision. The nasal refinement can be performed through an open or closed approach.Following the advice of anyone who would presume to tell you what to do based on two dimensional photos without taking a full medical history, examining you, feeling and assessing your tissue tone, discussing your desired outcome and fully informing you about the pros and cons of each option would not be in your best interest. Find a plastic surgeon that you are comfortable with and one that you trust and listen to his or her advice. The surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Dorsal hump and osteotomies Hello. In order to remove the hump, the doctor will have to remove some cartilage and some bone. Most often, when we remove bone from the top, the nasal pyramid becomes flat, and we create something called an open roof. In order to close the open roof osteotomies have to be done. This can easily be achieved through a closed rhinoplasty. Good luck. Dr. G

Answer: Rhinoplasty Your dorsal bone and cartilage need to be shaved down. I prefer to do this open to get the best exposure and to adequately visualize the deformity.

Answer: Will the nose be broken after a dorsal hump removal? When there is a significant dorsal hump present, an open roof deformity also known as a flat top nose is created from the hump removal. While the nose might look great from the side profile, the frontal profile will be widened. Osteotomies of the nasal bones are required to be performed to close the open roof. Osteotomies of the nasal bones involve making small cuts in them and narrowing them accordingly. For more information and many examples, please see the link and video below
