My muscle repair failed. Can it be successfully redone? (Photos)

Dear nervous,   Thanks for posting your pictures and sorry for your disappointing outcome.From observing your pictures you appear to have significant abdominal muscles laxity  , large belly button and asymmetric scar.   Your disappointment is quite obvious and understood, however , you will have to wait , at least, 2 months for the revision, in order to allow your surgery to heal further and your scars to mature.    Ideally, it takes a year for the scars to mature, however, 6 months is a reasonable compromise, considering your frustration with the surgical outcome. You will need to re tighten the muscles, make the belly button smaller and lower, at least,  the right scar for symmetry.   Your best option , financially, is to have the revision with your original surgeon, but if you lost confidence in the surgeon, consider consulting with other experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive with flat stomach, nice belly button, improved body posture and lower symmetrical scar.                   Best of luck,                                 Dr Widder    

Dear, based on your photos, after 6 months, you might benefit from a revision to deal with your muscles tightening, the size of your belly button and scar asymmetry. In the meanwhile, core-focused exercises will help with your final result

In a routine tummy tuck, muscles are tightened and excess skin/fat are removed.... surgeons generally use judgement when it comes to the degree with which they tighten the abdominal wall and where/how sutures are placed...although this isn’t ‘rocket science,’ certain women will fail abdominal wall suturing for a variety of reasons.... this can be unpredictable and influenced by the number/type of pregnancies, age at last pregnancy, menopausal status, weight gain/loss, etc..... even in my experienced abdominoplasty practice, I have had rare occasions of needing to revise patients’ abdominal wall for partial failure... in these cases (and preventatively when I suspect failure to be possible), I utilize mesh and advance the obliques significantly.... this has been met with reliable results even in those multiparous women with tummies that appear 9 months pregnant a full year after deliveryGood luck
