Hello.Great question. Yes blood clots may be fatal. Various methods are taken during every surgical procedure to avoid the developments of blood clots.
Dear Imaginative9243,There is really small chance of death during BBL surgery performed by board-certified plastic surgeon, but still, there is a chance for death to happen. In most cases, it is caused by pulmonary embolism. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Thank you so much for your question.A Board Plastic Surgeon avoid complications during and after surgery, the patient need to follow Surgeon protocol to avoid risks. A blood clot it could be a serious problem after surgery but after a Liposuction procedure the Surgeon authorizes to use compressions socks and medications to avoid this type of complications and her/him will inform the patient how long she/he needs to used them. If you are thinking about having a plastic surgery please speak with your Plastic Surgeon.Best regards,Dr. Quiroz!
Imaginative9243 It appears you are inquiring about a blood clot traveling from somewhere in the body to the lungs after an operation, called pulmonary embolus, which can be fatal. This fairly rare complication can occur after any type of surgery, but more common after certain orthopedic operations like knee replacement. It is also more common after longer procedures, over 4-6 hours. It is not a common complication after liposuction, but as with any operation, precautions should be taken. Board-certified plastic surgeons operating in accredited facilities take such precautions, which include use of intermittent compression devices placed on the legs to keep blood flowing to prevent blood clot formation. Discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon. Good luck.
All surgeries have risks of severe complications. Medical accidents are ones that are fulle prepared for an all preparations are done to prevent these. Liposuction is a fairly invasive surgical procedure with significantly low risk of mortality from complications. There are almost no reports of serious complications that could lead to death in most patients.
Hello, and thank you for your question. (Keep in mind that an in-person consultation is necessary for the best advice.) The simple answer to your question is "yes, a patient can die if a blood clot develops during liposuction". Thankfully, by using compression devices on your legs and walking soon after surgery, the risk of developing blood clots is decreased. If you decide to pursue surgery it’s very important that you find a surgeon whom you are comfortable with and trust and who evaluates you in-person and tailors an individualized treatment plan for you and your aesthetic goals. Best of luck!Matthew A. DelMauro, M.D.
Yes people have died after liposuction from blood clots. Proper operative procedures and early post operative mobilization can help but the risks are not zero.
The question is: " can a person die from a blood clot." Yes ! However, if the patient is properly selected and cleared medically, and the procedure is performed by a board certified plastic surgeon in an accredited facility, the chances of having a blood clot are very low.
I think what you meant to say was a blood clot caused by liposuction and not the other way around it. The answer to your question it is a 100% confirmatory yes. People can die from blood clots regardless of what caused the blood clot to form. And someone that with no other underlying risk factors the chance of this is fairly small. It's far more likely that the person will be dealing with bad results needing revisions or being disfigured. Not that those scenarios will leave someone 6 feet under bur it's important to look at negative outcomes in regards to percentages. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
