Any suggestions for bumps and clumps in my lips? (Hyaluronic Acid filled)

Question

I had a Hyaluronic Acid yesterday on my lips, and I feel a lot of clums, or bumps, is this going to fade? I'm worried it would be noticeable in kissing for example, because when I feel my lips they are like very bumpy and uneven! :( ...Thank you for your help!!

a Juvederm, Restylane or Perlane treatment there is hardly any downtime at all.
Although, with lip treatments, there is a certain amount of noticeable swelling
that can last for several days.I suggest you consult with your board certified facial plastic surgeon who performed the injections. Feel free to schedule a follow-up appointment to express your concerns.

Thank you for your excellent question.  Smaller bumps or clumps will usually dissolve over the first few days after filler placement, and can be aided with gentle massage.  Larger ones may linger requiring a separate medicine to help dissolve them if they do not dissolve. Most fillers take about 2 weeks to see your final results, so be in touch with your injector should you have any additional questions or concerns.

Hello Sandra,It is very common to feel lumpiness immediately after filler injection depending on your injector, how much was injected, and the technique used.  I recommend massage techniques to my patients to prevent any prolonged lumpiness if it develops but with the linear threading technique I use this is less common.  As time goes by this lumpiness should soften up.  I would recommend you wait at least 2 weeks for the swelling to go down and the product to settle before considering any injections of enzymes to remove the filler. I hope this helps and good luck.

It is not unusual in the first 2 weeks to feel some bumpies & lumpies (excuse the non-medical terms). Most will resolve on their own if you just wait, or you can firmly squeeze them between 2 fingers to bring down quicker or have your dermatologist assess. For the very uncommon nodule that persists past 2-3 weeks, we can inject a little hyaluronidase to soften and reduce it.

It is still too early to be concerned. Try some very mild massage to the areas of bumps. If after a week there is still a problem, go back to your doc and see if it needs to be dissolved with hyaluronidase. I prefer using Restylane Silk for lips now because it naturally spreads and lumps are rare.

Gracias por su pregunta, Sandra. This can be an expected outcome within the first few days following filler treatment.  I recommend simple ice and patience until the filler settles in.  Gentle massage can also be helpful, but I usually caution against this as I don't want my patients compressing the filler and altering the results that I have given them. In some cases, if this persists, any misplaced filler can be expressed through the skin following a small poke with a needle in your physician's office.  Worst case scenario if the lips remain lumpy would be to inject hyaluronidase and simply reverse what was injected.

I always tell my patients to not love their filler
injections for 2 weeks. Swelling is very common and sometimes immediate. It can
last 3-7 days and a good idea is to use cold compresses. Cold compresses may be
used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling only if needed. This may be
applied for 3 minutes, 3 times per day, for up to 3 days. This is best done
with a bag of peas in a zip lock bag. Only apply light pressure to the area but
gentle massage might be necessary if the bump is from the filler material
itself. Get Arnica gel if you can find some and apply a few times a day as well
to help treat any swelling. Avoid any blood thinners. Bruising can also last
1-2 weeks. I don't recommend hyaluronidase this early and wait a few weeks
until the swelling has resolved. If it is persistent or you are worried, set up
a follow up appointment with your dermatologist.

It sounds as though you can't really see the bumps and clumps.  Most likely, this will all resolve in a week or so.  You can massage, but don't be very aggressive.  Give it some time...you may love it!
