Can you change your implant size at pre-op? I want my implants to be slightly larger.

Your question is a good one and it is quite common for patients to decide on different implant sizes as they get closer to surgery.  I would chat with your surgeon as soon as possible to make sure they are aware of the change and can get the right implants available for your big day.  Great question and good luck!

Thank you for your question. Yes, it shouldn't be a problem. The common denominator to the most beautiful breasts is that they were sized objectively on the basis of measurements. Many surgeons use a proven formula based on measurements of the rests and chest along with through discussions of patient's desires. Photos of ideal breasts and results from patients with similar breasts are often very helpful in the discussion. Plastic surgeons are trained differently and have varying levels of experience and so the key is to work with a Board Certified plastic surgeon with expertise and experience in breast augmentation. He or she should be able to clearly explain their approach and why they do things a certain way. I hope this was helpful. It is not uncommon to see patients change their mind about implant size before surgery.  I would recommend talking to your surgeon's office as soon as possible to make the necessary arrangements.  Your surgeon may want to meet with you again to make sure you are on the same page prior to surgery.  Good communication before surgery will leave you and your surgeon much happier and avoid last minute running around and potential additional charges for last minute implant size changes.  Best wishes on a great result.

Thank you for your question. Each office will have their own policies. At our office we allow our patients to change their size at their pre-op but will not allow them to change after their sizing consent is signed. I recommend contacting your surgeons office to find out their policies. 

although last minute changes are not advisable as they can be consuming for yourself but also practically challenging for your surgeon or the hospital they are usually possible. it all depends on the arrangement your doctor has with the implant supplier and other parameters (such where you live, if the hospital has a stock etc)

Hello Molly,It is very common for patients to have last minute wobbles.  I try to stress that the important things to focus on are the width of your chest (which is fixed) and the shape and the profile of the implant.  I don't think it is helpful to focus too much on the size of the implant (although everybody does).  Once you have chosen a certain shape and profile (for instance round moderate profile), a difference in size slightly bigger or smaller does not make much of a difference.It is very important that you are at peace with the decision because while it won't make much difference to the result, you don't want to go in to surgery without being totally confident that are making the right choice.This is a big decision so if you need more time to decide, then you should postpone the surgery until you are totally comfortable.Good luck!

Your best resource of information would be your surgeon as he/she will be the one to have the capability to answer this concern. Some surgeons do order externally and would not be able to change last minute especially when the ordered implants are produced. However some centers have stocks of range of implant sizes and will  be possible to have a last minute change.

The answered to your question depends on where the procedure is being done. Many facilities have the physician or the facility order the implants preoperatively and, although they usually order a range of implants, they cannot go out of what is ordered. I do my augmentations at a surgery center where we have a consignment stock of implants. I try preoperatively to understand the patient's wishes. I place a mammary sizer In the operating room and selected my implants based on the sizer rather than on my preoperative estimate.

You should not proceed with implant surgery if you are unsure about your size choice.  Call your surgeon right away to discuss so they can get a larger size for you.  If you wait until too close to the surgery and they have to cancel or delay, it may cost you additional fee.  Most of the time implants can be obtained within 24 hours.  Congratulations on your augmentation and good luck to you.
