I had inferior blephroplasty and lower face lift done 4 months ago. Things have been going well even though there is still some swelling mostly at the back of cheeks near the ears. However I went for a facial and upper body massage today which was rather vigorous. I didn't feel much at the time but now the face is more swollen than before (but not bruised). Could I have done some damage to the surgery?

Answer: Swelling 4 months after facelift The swelling may be from big ears massage of your upper trunk and face. Additionally if there were any type of topical soothing agents place they may have induced swelling. You need to see your plastic surgeon as soon as possible for reevaluation.

Answer: Facial swelling after massasge Hello. Thank you for your question. I think it is very unlikely that there has been any harm done by a massage 4 months after a facelift. You are still in the healing process and the lymphatic drainage of the facial tissues has likely not returned to normal yet. I would anticipate resolution of the swelling over the next 24 - 48 hours. If it does not resolve, then you certainly should follow up with your surgeon for reassurance. I would suggest that your massage therapist be a little less vigorous in the areas of surgery until the healing is complete. I hope this information is helpful.
